Date-night Korean BBQ in Haengdang-dong: giant-bowl stew, Pujutgan

In short

Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom is a 100-seat fresh-meat Korean BBQ restaurant in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, a short walk from Exit 10 of Wangsimni Station. On a Thursday evening after work, a married couple ordered one serving each of pork belly, pork neck and skirt meat, which staff grilled at the table on a cauldron-lid griddle, then finished with the free doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) served in a giant metal bowl and a bowl of bibim-naengmyeon (cold spicy noodles). Easy access and generous free stews and noodles make Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom a good pick for both a date and a team dinner.

Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom isn't just known for good meat — it's also famous for its generous complimentary dessert menu. I rushed straight over after work on Thursday.

Inside the 100-seat restaurant: aprons and bags for your clothes

The inside of Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom was pretty spacious. With about 100 seats, it seemed perfect for a company dinner too.

Aprons hanging on the wall with table setup

Aprons hang on the wall for anyone to use freely. And without us even asking, a staff member immediately brought us a plastic bag to keep our clothes safe from the smell of the meat. So thoughtful! ❤️ They brought the apron right over while serving too — the staff were all so kind.

Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom has every type of beef and pork you could want. From hanwoo (Korean beef) assortments for special occasions, to the Pujutgan special, sirloin, and skirt steak, there are specialty cuts, plus chadolbagi (thinly sliced beef brisket) and yukhoe (beef tartare) too. For pork, there's pork belly, pork neck, gabrisal, skirt meat, and jowl — pick whatever suits your taste.

And here's the thing — when you order by headcount, stew/naengmyeon/janchi-guksu (feast noodles)/nurungji (scorched rice) are all unlimited and free!

Pork belly, pork neck and skirt meat: one serving of each for two

My husband and I couldn't decide what to eat, so since we wanted to try a bit of everything, we ordered one serving each of pork belly, pork neck, and skirt meat.

Can you see how gorgeous the meat looks ❣️ They also gave us plenty of lettuce wraps and vegetables to go with it.

The grill is a cauldron-lid grill, so you can pile on kimchi, onions, mushrooms, and other vegetables for a really hearty spread. Staff even grilled all the meat for us themselves — so touched! ⭐️

Such an amazing spread. Alright, time to start the food-fighting.

The staff kept close to every table, grilling continuously, so we could just relax and eat without worrying about a thing — that was such a plus.

First bite goes into salt — the juices were seriously the best...!

A well-grilled piece of skirt meat
Juicy grilled pork neck

Then wrapped in perilla leaves, dipped in pickled radish, dipped in kimchi...

The meat was truly so delicious! Having such generous sides to eat alongside it was really great too.

The free doenjang jjigae, served in a giant metal bowl

When you first order, they also take your stew order — I went with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew).

Complimentary doenjang jjigae served in a giant pot
Doenjang jjigae loaded with tofu, zucchini, and potato

Since it was free, I assumed it'd come in a small bowl about the size of a steamed egg dish... but no, it came in an actual giant basin-sized pot..!

As you can see, it was loaded with tofu, zucchini, potatoes, and more vegetables. Both the portion and the flavor were an absolute steal.

Bibim-naengmyeon to finish, and it comes generously filled

Next up, the bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) we ordered!

Bibim-naengmyeon topped with egg and cucumber
A bowl of mixed bibim-naengmyeon

The bibim-naengmyeon's visuals were no joke either. I figured a naengmyeon served as a follow-up dish would come in a small portion, but it came out really generous! Loaded with egg and plenty of cucumber too.

Bibim-naengmyeon eaten alongside grilled meat — is there a better combo? We ate until we were completely, happily full.
