Family lunch and squid leg fry at Seolleung gyukatsu spot Gyuen Dang
In short
Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a Japanese gyukatsu (beef cutlet) restaurant near Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, that opened on September 5. Three of us — me, my mom and my youngest sibling — ordered sirloin gyukatsu, brie cheese omurice, potato curry and a side of gesoage (fried squid legs), and the rice and fried portions were almost too much to finish. Arriving right at opening time means no wait, and the sirloin gyukatsu you grill to taste on the tabletop brazier at Gyuen Dang was the highlight.

My mom and youngest sibling came over and stayed at my place for a night not long ago. My sibling's living in a college dorm, so there's a lot they can't normally eat, and now whenever they visit they say let's go eat something expensive hahaha. Gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) was one of those things it had been forever since they'd had, so we decided to go for gyukatsu — and since we were already headed to Gangnam, we ended up having gyukatsu for lunch at a Seolleung Station restaurant!

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch: a Japanese gyukatsu restaurant near Seolleung Station, open since September 5
This is Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch! I'd already had it at the Seongsu location, both at a work lunch and with a friend, so the taste was already guaranteed — that's why I went straight for a visit here haha.

It opened on September 5, so this really is a freshly, freshly opened restaurant near Seolleung — Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch!

The menu is posted out front like this. From the times I ate at the Seongsu branch, the sirloin gyukatsu and brie cheese omurice were the best haha.

Since we visited right when it opened, we got in immediately with no wait!

What the three of us ordered, and how QR ordering works at Gyuen Dang
There's a review event first, and the menu board is really simple, right? haha We ordered sirloin gyukatsu, brie cheese omurice, potato curry, and a side of squid leg fry. We ordered through the QR code, but the chicken skin fry was sold out...!

Inside, each table has a gyukatsu brazier set up, and there was even a baby chair off to one side!

There were two braziers total on the table, but since we only ordered one gyukatsu, they only lit one for us!

On the table there are instructions for how to eat gyukatsu and how to eat the omurice. There are tips for grilling the gyukatsu meat plus an explanation of the brie cheese too.

After a short wait, everything arrived!! The portions are really huge, right...? Same with the curry — and the omurice has a ton of rice too...!

Sirloin gyukatsu: why I prefer sirloin to tenderloin
First up, the sirloin gyukatsu! I've had both tenderloin and sirloin, and personally I think sirloin is tastier haha.

Gyuen Dang's gyukatsu always looks so pretty in color...! Doesn't it look delicious just from looking at it? haha

Wasabi, salt, sauce, and butter are provided, and the radish salad and clear soup come as standard!

Brie cheese omurice: rich cheese aroma, is it for you?
And then the brie cheese omurice!! The cheese is really thick and the egg was made so beautifully haha. I asked my mom to cut it, but she didn't realize and cut all the way through it....!

So here's the omurice split in half hahaha. Still, the brie cheese underneath means it doesn't really show much haha. Then they pour the sauce over the top! The brie cheese omurice is really, really my style....!!

The cheese-loaded omurice doesn't stretch as much as mozzarella, but the cheese aroma is really strong and pairs really well with the omurice — I love that haha.

Potato curry and gesoage squid leg fry: too much food even for three
Last up, the potato curry! Potato curry literally means a curry loaded with a lot of potato, and I had no idea this much rice would come with it...! It also came with croquette and fried bits on top, and since none of the three of us have huge appetites to begin with, I felt like we'd be way too full if we finished it all.....

On top of that, we had no idea and ordered the squid fry too....! The squid was crispy and went really well with the sauce, but the portions were all just so huge that we got way too full ㅠㅠㅠ
True to its name, the potato curry has a potato croquette on top, and in the middle there's fried sweet pumpkin! And underneath that there were even shredded potato fries!! If we finished the potatoes too we'd really be stuffed....
How to grill gyukatsu on the tabletop brazier, with butter on top
Now they grill the gyukatsu for us! First they grill it plain with nothing added, and then they grill it again with butter on top!

Personally, I like it better with butter on top haha.

I like mine around medium, but my mom prefers hers fully cooked through, so being able to grill it however you like made this a great lunch spot near Seolleung Station — Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch. It's good to go with family, works well for dates with friends or a partner, and since it's right by Seolleung Station, it's also a solid lunch option for office workers — this newly opened Seolleung restaurant, Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch~~!!!
