Cheonan chicken stew for four, three fried rice rounds: Sottture

In short

Sottture Dakdoritang is a chicken stew (dakdoritang) restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, where the stew simmers in a shallow iron pot lid on a burner at your table. Four diners ordered the chicken-and-a-half for 45,000 won, ate it with side dishes from the self-serve bar, and then fried rice three separate times in the leftover spicy sauce. With that final fried rice, Sottture Dakdoritang is a filling one-meal stop for a group.

Today I'm writing up Sottture Dakdoritang, a Seongjeong-dong favorite we headed to when four of us were craving something spicy and filling 😊

Dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) simmered shallow in a huge pot lid?! There's a massive pot right out front with steam rising off it, total eye-catcher 🔥

Where to park at Sottture Dakdoritang: the lot behind the building

Sottture Dakdoritang has a parking lot set up behind the building. In Seongjeong-dong, parking worries kind of come with the territory when you're heading out to eat.

There's a sign on the storefront window saying 'parking is behind the building,' so it wasn't hard to find. We drove that day too, and being able to park right behind the restaurant took some of the stress off 😊

What kind of restaurant is Sottture Dakdoritang in Seongjeong-dong?

Sottture Dakdoritang uses fresh domestic chicken, low-temperature aged in a house sauce for a clean yet deep, rich flavor, they say. Notably, it's not pre-simmered — everything's cooked to order, so it's fresher and more generous. If you're looking for dakdoritang in Seongjeong-dong, this one's worth keeping in mind.

Inside Sottture Dakdoritang: clean and tidy

The inside was clean and had a comfortable atmosphere for a relaxed meal.

Every table has its own burner, so you can keep the dakdoritang bubbling away and eat it piping hot. There were four of us that day.

Is the 45,000 won chicken-and-a-half enough for four people?

We ordered a chicken-and-a-half for ₩45,000! It's meant for 3–4 people, and when it arrived it really was quite generous.

Chicken, rice cake, scallions, mushrooms — piled high — and see that white something sitting right in the middle?

Boiled egg decorated to look like a chicken

Hahaha, isn't it too cute? 🐔 They decorated a boiled egg to look like a little chicken, complete with eyes, a beak, and even a comb — such detail! It was the kind of visual that makes you grab your camera before you eat, haha. I'm such a sucker for little touches like this 😁

The longer the dakdoritang simmers, the richer it tastes

At first there's plenty of broth, but as it bubbles and reduces, the color deepens and the sauce really soaks in.

Fish out a big chunk of chicken, then a chewy piece of rice cake! The sauce is spicy and rich — total rice-craving flavor.

If you like dakdoritang or dakbokkeumtang, this is a familiar yet hearty dish to enjoy. Eating it with four of us around the table made it even better 😊

Side dishes from the self-serve bar

Sottture Dakdoritang's self-serve bar has kimchi, pickles, salad and other basic side dishes.

Being able to help yourself to as much as you want is a nice touch.

Side dishes plated at the table

After the rich, spicy stew, a bite of something tangy really resets your palate haha. Good, filling one-meal stop for Korean food in Seongjeong-dong.

The real finale: three rounds of self-made fried rice

Fried rice with added seaweed flakes and egg

Finishing off most of the dakdoritang wasn't the end, haha — our real mission (?) was still ahead. Self-fried rice, three times! Hahaha, four of us fried it three whole times 🤣 We tossed rice, seaweed flakes and egg right into the leftover sauce and fried it up ourselves.

Finished self-made dakdoritang fried rice

This combo can't miss just from the photo! The deeply reduced dakdoritang sauce soaks evenly into every grain, and with the nutty seaweed flakes and egg added in, the spoon kept going even when we were full. We ended up clearing all three rounds!

Doesn't it feel like the meal's not really over if you eat dakdoritang without the fried rice, haha? Personally, I only feel like I've properly enjoyed Sottture once I finish that last round of fried rice 👍

A 5,000 won lunch discount at Sottture Dakdoritang

One more thing caught my eye during the visit.

Store signage for the ₩5,000 lunch discount

Per the store's signage, there's a ₩5,000 lunch discount from 11:00 to 14:00, and a ₩5,000 discount on takeout too. If you're craving spicy Korean food around lunchtime, it's worth checking out as a Seongjeong-dong lunch spot 😊

A hearty meal in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan

Four of us went, ate a chicken-and-a-half stew at ₩45,000, and finished with three whole rounds of self-fried rice! We left properly stuffed. Cooking to order and simmering it yourself is fun, and the visuals — big chunks of chicken, rice cake, that adorable chicken-shaped egg — were entertaining too. And that last fried rice fried up in the rich sauce was seriously on point 👍

On a day you're craving a hearty, spicy dakbokkeumtang or dakdoritang, if you're looking for a Seongjeong-dong favorite, go enjoy a generous meal at Sottture Dakdoritang 😊🔥
