Daejeon kids' science magic show with first-come seats: Magician JT

I wanted to share a review of a show I recently went to with my kids! Explaining science to kids in words alone only goes so far, but I found a show that turns science into something fun and easy to understand through magic. It's called "Magician JT's Science Lab," and you can catch it around the country — Daejeon, Gangwon-do, Busan, Seoul, Daegu — depending on the schedule.

I went today because there was a Daejeon date for the science magic show on the schedule. 📍 It was held at the small theater of Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center in Daejeon. The show was at 2 PM, and I arrived an hour early to pick up tickets — turns out seating is assigned first-come, first-served?! My first son asked what we'd even do for a whole hour, but oh... good thing we came early. Getting to enjoy the show from a decent front spot was so satisfying 💯

After picking up the tickets, we took a walk with the kids, had a light snack, and arrived 15 minutes before entry to use the bathroom before heading in. This was my third time visiting Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center for a show — right next door there's an insect museum, Hanbat Arboretum, and more, so it's great for a full day out: watch the show, play at the playground, ride bikes, grab a snack, have some ramyeon, and enjoy the whole day!

Why the wait before the show isn't boring

We went in 15 minutes before showtime, and while waiting for the magician to appear, fun content played on the screen, so the kids and I played along with quizzes together. There were snack-name guessing games, character-name guessing games, and more, and the other kids around us were reacting so well too 👏🏻 Normally kids ask "Mom, when does it start?" until your ears bleed, right? At this science magic show, not a single word of that, haha.

My son loved Magician JT's Science Lab so much he even subscribed to the YouTube channel.

Which experiments appear in Magician JT's Science Lab?

The moment it started, the magician launched right into one amazing trick after another. Honestly, not just the kids but I was completely absorbed too..! There were kids of all different ages in the audience, but not a single one lost focus during the show.

After a good while of solo tricks, his partner Rabbit came out right before the main show segment. The first trick used static electricity, and as he explained the science behind it step by step while showing it visually, it clearly stuck with the kids. It was so cute seeing them chatter on about it even after the show ended.

Hands-on magic: kids called up on stage

There wasn't a single dull moment because there was so much audience participation. Under the theme of "superpowers," he showed several tricks — first, one kid from the audience went up on stage, and Magician JT lifted the kid without touching them at all... no matter how many times you see it, it's just wild 🫪

He kept the audience-involved tricks coming — everyone pressed together to pop a balloon, and he guessed a number typed into a calculator, which was so fun and kept us all locked in, haha.

The elephant poop experiment and dry ice clouds

Not just kids — one dad, one mom, and several other teams went up under different themes to join in the magic, so how could you not stay focused? Using hydrogen peroxide and dish soap, he made "elephant toothpaste," similar to a volcano eruption experiment, and it was impossible not to gasp as the liquid in the beaker instantly turned solid-looking and erupted upward 🫢

For the optical illusion magic, he explained it slowly and in detail, and on the way out, every single audience member got a small card that lets you do the illusion trick yourself, which made the kids so happy. He also made clouds using dry ice and hot water, and launched donut-shaped air vortex rings — firing them off from many angles so that every single person in the crowd got to experience it 👍🏻

One hour of show, ending with a laser show and photo zone

At the end, all the audience members got to spin balls representing Earth and Mars together, and the encore brought a dazzling, brilliant laser show 🔥 The Daejeon science magic show, Magician JT's Science Lab, was only an hour long, but it was so packed with content that it left nothing to be desired — a truly satisfying show.

We got an optical illusion magic card as a gift, and lined up at the photo zone to take a picture with Magician JT and his partner Rabbit ☺️ Magician JT isn't about explaining difficult science in words alone — he shows you the principles right before your eyes in a way that's easy to understand.
