Daejeon indoor outing with kids: cloud-making at Magician JT's show

I wanted to spend some special time with my kid over the weekend, so we went to see Magician JT's Science Lab, a science magic show held at Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center.

It's not just a show of amazing magic tricks — it weaves in science ideas that can be tricky for kids, like optical illusions, air, light, and how clouds form, through magic and experiments in a fun way. That's why I wanted to introduce it as a fun indoor outing to try with your kid in Daejeon :)

Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center science magic show: how early to arrive for front-row seats?

Magician JT's Science Lab was held in the theater at Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center in Seo-gu, Daejeon. We arrived about 20 minutes before the show and were given a middle-row center seat. If you want to sit in the front row, I'd recommend arriving about an hour early.

It was such a beautiful day, and it had been a while since I got to have a date just with my daughter! With her 17-month-old little sibling now in the picture, this one-on-one time is something both she and I had been looking forward to so much, haha.

The moment we arrived at the Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center theater, her expression changed instantly — you could just tell how excited she was, hahaha.

We even stopped by the photo zone for some bright, smiling pictures!

The seating guidance was really friendly too ^^ We arrived about 20 minutes before showtime and got a middle-row center seat. If you want the very front row, I'd recommend arriving about an hour early!

Once we got inside, the theater was bigger than I expected, and the stage itself was pretty large too!

Before the show started, we looked at the moon and earth models set up in front of the stage and took some photos — the science magic show vibe was already in full swing before it even began, haha. Even mom got excited, it had been a while~~~!!!

From pigeon magic to levitation: where Magician JT hooks the kids

Magician JT's Science Lab opened with a trick where a pigeon suddenly appears. Then came levitation magic, where someone appears to float in midair — the moment kids' focus goes way up ^^

Since audience members were pulled up on stage on the spot to take part in the tricks, it felt so much more immersive and lively ^^

Even as an adult who can roughly guess how a trick works, seeing it right in front of you is still amazing, right? I was amazed watching it over and over, lol. My daughter had her eyes wide open the whole time, asking me over and over, 'Mom, how do they do that?' lol, and she couldn't tear her eyes off the stage >.<

How Magician JT explains optical illusions through magic

The Science Lab show also featured an arrow illusion experiment. I really wanted to come see this show because it's fun for kids who love magic while also naturally exposing them to scientific principles.

They showed an illusion where arrows pointing in different directions appear to point the same way depending on how they're rotated. If you just explain visual illusions like this verbally, kids can find it hard to grasp, but presenting it as a magic trick made it so much more fun and easy to take in.

The cloud-making experiment my daughter loved most

My daughter's and my absolute favorite moment was, hands down, the cloud-making experiment! It's where a hot liquid is added to a cold substance and white smoke suddenly billows across the stage.

When the hot liquid hit the cold substance, white smoke burst across the stage and billowed up like a cloud, and the kids let out real gasps of amazement, lol — they loved it. (Yes... I let out a bit of a shriek too, lol — so much fun.)

My daughter loved it the most, saying it was so amazing how the smoke filled everything. Today's highlight of Magician JT's Science Lab, for sure!^^

Giant globe in the audience and the closing laser show

The final highlight was so much fun too! They rolled a giant globe out toward the audience, and the kids went wild trying to touch the ball as it passed over their heads, haha.

My daughter was thrilled that she got to touch it twice, lol — such a cutie >.< Having a moment where the audience gets to actually participate made the kids so much more engaged than a show where you just sit and watch.

And to close it out, a dazzling laser show! Light spread across the entire theater, giving our eyes a treat right to the very end.

With science, magic, music, and lighting all rolled into one, there wasn't a dull moment until the show ended. We picked this as an indoor date while it's still hot out, while looking for things to do with kids in Daejeon — and it turned out to be such a great choice ^^

After the show, my daughter was reluctant to leave, so we went outside for a little walk together!
