This time we went to Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch for some delicious hanwoo (Korean beef) to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday! On a birthday you want a nicer atmosphere and a relaxed meal, right? This place has private rooms and lets you pick your own meat, so it seemed perfect for a celebration. Spoiler: the chuck flap steak was so tender... we kept saying "this is so good" the whole meal haha. Let me share our review, from the table setting all the way to dessert 🤍

Private rooms at Worang Myeongga: good for birthdays and family meals

Walking in, there was a row of private rooms one after another. The hall was spacious too, and the overall clean atmosphere made me glad we came here for the birthday.

Good meat matters, but on a celebration day the space matters too — and having a private room at Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch makes it great for eating with family or for a quiet conversation. If you're looking for a spot for your parents' birthday or a family gathering, this could be worth checking out. Picking your own hanwoo at the display: why chuck flap steak

Worang Myeongga is a butcher-style restaurant where you look at the meat on display and choose what to eat. You get to see the cut with your own eyes before deciding — the problem is, it all looks delicious hahaha. We stood there deliberating for a while.

There was signage for 1++ hanwoo (Korean beef) cow at the store too. Looking at the display, I wanted this, I wanted that... the anticipation started before we'd even chosen. We both like tender cuts, so after some back and forth we went with chuck flap steak (salchisal)!

Look at that marbling... seriously 🤍 Even before grilling, it already looked amazing. We came thinking "let's eat something good since it's his birthday," and honestly we were already in a good mood the moment we picked the meat haha.

What the 4,000 won table setting includes, beef sashimi and all

There was a ₩4,000 table setting fee, but once I saw the spread, it didn't feel like a waste at all. It wasn't just a lot of side dishes — each one felt carefully made. It was also fun tasting a bit of everything before the meat even hit the grill!

What I especially loved was that the basic table setting came with육사시미 (yukhoe, beef tartare)...! We came for hanwoo and got beef tartare right from the start haha. Instead of just waiting for the meat, we got to enjoy the whole table setting together, which made the meal feel even more satisfying.

The side dishes to eat with the meat were also served neatly. We tried a bit of everything, thinking about which combination we'd like — but honestly, once the meat itself turned out to be so good, we ended up just eating meat the rest of the time hahaha.

And the soup that came with it was really good too. At first I thought it was doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), but it wasn't! It had a hanwoo gukbap (beef and rice soup) feel — spicy yet rich, the kind where you keep going back for another spoonful. It was great to sip between bites of meat.

The steamed egg was also soft like pudding, very satisfying 🤍 When the basic dishes are this good, it naturally puts you in an even better mood.

The self-service bar even has fruit

Besides the basic table setting, there was a separate self-service bar. It was convenient to grab any side dishes or vegetables we needed ourselves. I especially liked that fruit was available too! We grabbed some and ate it together — taking a bite of fruit between meat bites felt so refreshing.

Corkage is 10,000 won: a birthday dinner with sake

Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch has a ₩10,000 corkage fee! Since it was a special occasion, we wanted to bring along a drink we liked, and the fee wasn't a burden at all, so we brought our own sake. Delicious hanwoo plus sake really made it feel like a proper birthday dinner haha. If you have a favorite drink, using the corkage option to enjoy it together sounds like a great idea.

There were also drinks you could order at the store, so it's worth checking the menu.

How was the charcoal-grilled chuck flap steak?

The meat is grilled over charcoal. After picking out the chuck flap steak that looked so good, we were so excited waiting for it to be grilled haha.

Taking a bite, it was genuinely so tender. Exactly the texture we like! It really was the kind of thing where you understand what "melts in your mouth" means. The meat itself was so good that we didn't even bother wrapping it in lettuce — we just ate it plain. Rather than piling on extras, eating it piece by piece was so satisfying.

If you like tender cuts, chuck flap steak is worth trying. We were very happy with our choice that day 🤍 We didn't try other cuts, but the chuck flap steak was so good it made us want to try other parts next time.

Meal menu and hanwoo gift sets at Worang Myeongga

Aside from grilled cuts, there was also a separate meal menu. There were dishes like galbitang (short rib soup) and hanwoo gukbap, so it seems like a solid option for lunch too. If you're planning to have meat and then a proper meal, check the menu! We had already gone through the full table setting plus the chuck flap steak, so our table stayed packed the whole time haha.

On one side, there was gift-set hanwoo on display too. They said it's also sold for Chuseok holiday gifts, so if you're thinking about a hanwoo gift for the holidays, it's worth taking a look while you're there for a meal. Seeing it all packaged up, it looked like a nice gift for older family members.

Finishing with ice cream and coffee

On the way out after our meal, there was even ice cream and coffee available, which was great. After eating meat, you crave something sweet, right? At the time of our visit, Naver had a coupon for a free snow-flake shaved ice if you followed the store's notifications and left a review.

The tender chuck flap steak was delicious, but what made it even more satisfying was the full table setting — beef tartare, rich soup, and steamed egg. The private room and atmosphere made it great for a celebration, and being able to add sake with a ₩10,000 corkage fee suited our taste perfectly. 5 out of 5 stars!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
