Flounder, red seabream, jack mackerel sashimi takeout: Ttangkkeut
In short
Ttangkkeut Maeul is a live-fish sashimi restaurant that has held its ground in Noryangjin Fish Market, Seoul for years. A sashimi-loving couple ordered a 3-kind sashimi set of flounder, red seabream and jack mackerel (shima aji) to take home, and were won over by the crunch of the flounder, the crispy skin of the maskawa red seabream, and a jack mackerel that finally didn't have that dreaded muddy taste. If you're after live-fish sashimi in Noryangjin, the 3-kind set at Ttangkkeut Maeul is a safe, satisfying choice.

Noryangjin Fish Market live-fish sashimi spot | Noryangjin restaurant | Ttangkkeut Maeul | honest review of the 3-kind sashimi set — flounder · red seabream · jack mackerel (shima aji)
My husband and I are the kind of couple who basically need sashimi at least once a week (haha), but we'd been completely obsessed with blue crab lately since it's crab season, so it had been a while since we'd had any sashimi at all.
Finally unable to hold out any longer, we headed straight to the famous Noryangjin Fish Market sashimi spot and longtime local fixture, Ttangkkeut Maeul (땅끝마을). Today I'm giving you a thorough rundown of our 3-kind sashimi and all the store details.
What is Ttangkkeut Maeul?
Ttangkkeut Maeul is a leading live-fish sashimi specialist that has held its spot in Noryangjin Fish Market for years. It's known for both freshness and reliability, preparing the live fish customers pick themselves at its very best.
It's been featured on YouTube's Korean Englishman and MBC's Welcome, First Time in Korea?, among other shows and content, earning recognition from both domestic diners and foreign tourists as a Noryangjin must-visit — reading the reviews before we went really got our hopes up.

We ordered the 3-kind sashimi and started with the jack mackerel
What we ordered was the 3-kind sashimi set made up of flounder, red seabream, and jack mackerel (shima aji). My husband really loves jack mackerel, so as soon as we got it home he reached for that first — though honestly, we were both a little nervous. We'd had a bad first experience with shima aji at a different sashimi restaurant once, where it tasted muddy and threw us off completely (lol). So this time we picked up our chopsticks with half curiosity, half hope, wondering how it would turn out.

Flounder — crunchy and clean
The flounder had that crunchy texture that really shows off the freshness of live-fish sashimi. Each bite had a chewy springiness, but the aftertaste was clean and light, the kind that keeps you reaching for more.

Maskawa red seabream — crispy skin, chewy flesh
Maskawa (skin-blanched) red seabream, one of my personal favorite kinds of sashimi, was definitely not missing here either. The skin had that crispy texture intact, and the flesh had a chewy bite with a subtle, savory richness spreading through it — my husband and I happily cleared the plate together.

Anything besides the 3-kind sashimi set?
Ttangkkeut Maeul has a variety of other menu options beyond the 3-kind sashimi set. It's worth checking the full lineup before you visit.
For gatherings and family meals, there's Hanulchaegwan
Alongside its live-fish sashimi, Ttangkkeut Maeul also directly runs a table-setting restaurant called Hanulchaegwan for those who want a comfortable dining space. We didn't visit in person since we took our order to go, but apparently it has a spacious, clean hall as well as private rooms, making it suitable for family gatherings or group meals — worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a gathering spot in Noryangjin.
Wrap-up
After briefly forgetting about sashimi during crab season, Ttangkkeut Maeul filled that gap properly. Both my husband and I were satisfied with the 3-kind sashimi, so I can confidently recommend it to anyone looking for a good live-fish sashimi spot in Noryangjin 🐟
