Nampo-dong restaurant for salt-grilled offal: Bupyeong Yang Gopchang
In short
Bupyeong Yang Gopchang is a grilled offal restaurant by the Bupyeong Kkangtong Market night market in Nampo-dong, Busan. I had salt-grilled heart, large intestine, small intestine, and special tripe, all cooked to just the right point by the staff. Verdict: a worthwhile stop for old-school grilled offal in Nampo-dong.

Bupyeong Yang Gopchang in front of the Kkangtong Market night market

It is right in front of the Kkangtong Market night market, so it is one of the first places you see when you come out—hard not to go in,,, There were lots of yang gopchang (beef tripe and intestines) places, but this was clearly the busiest one. It is actually two shops joined together too, haha.
They say the Kkangtong Market gopchang alley formed naturally in the 1960s, as little taverns gathered to grill and sell offal from a nearby slaughterhouse alongside canned meat from the U.S. military base.
Inside the Nampo-dong grilled-offal alley

Bupyeong Yang Gopchang is the old-school favorite that always comes to mind when I visit Nampo-dong in Busan. There is so much food around Nampo-dong and Jagalchi Market that I wonder what to eat every time, but my feet naturally end up heading to the grilled-offal alley!
Among them, Bupyeong Yang Gopchang is always packed with customers, popular for its clean flavor without any off smell and its deep richness. Near Bupyeong Tongtong Mokoji-gil, the alley’s lively atmosphere and the comforting aroma of fire-grilled food hit you from the entrance.
When the weather is a little cool, grab an outdoor table and you can fully soak up the boisterous yet warm feeling of a Busan night-market alley. The indoor space is also cleanly maintained with a comfortable amount of space between tables, making it nice for a relaxed meal. I saw lots of international visitors inside too, haha.

Salt grill, seasoned grill, and hot-pot menu
The menu includes salt grill, seasoned grill, and hot pot. I noticed lots of people ordering the seasoned version as well as the salt grill.

The flavor of yang gopchang enjoyed as a salt grill
Rather than the seasoned version, I ordered only the salt grill that day because I wanted to properly enjoy the clean, natural flavor of the offal! The platter arrived neatly filled with fresh cuts including heart, daechang (beef large intestine), gopchang (beef small intestine), and teukyang (special tripe).

Different textures, cooked by the staff
Yang gopchang can easily burn or turn tough if it is grilled wrong, but the staff personally cook it over the grill until it is browned and perfectly ready to eat. Thanks to that, you can chat comfortably while waiting without worrying about burning anything.
As it cooks, releasing rich fat over the grill, there is honestly not even the slightest off smell. From the chewy yet crisp texture of teukyang to daechang’s richness that bursts the more you chew, plus gopchang and heart with their clean finish, it is so fun to choose among the different cuts.
Soy sauce and side-dish pairings
The house soy-based dipping sauce served alongside is a real treat. Dip the meat deeply into the sauce with mildly spicy Cheongyang peppers and garlic, and it cuts through the richness of the fat so well that you can keep eating without getting tired of it. The mushrooms and potatoes grilled alongside, plus the tangy seasoned lettuce salad, also pair wonderfully with the savory salt grill.

A tip for visiting before the evening rush
During the evening rush or on weekends, there may be a wait unless you arrive early, so I recommend heading over a little sooner. If you want to taste the true richness of traditional yang gopchang in Nampo-dong, definitely stop by Bupyeong Yang Gopchang—one order of salt grill alone can leave the grill completely cleared.
If you are planning a Busan trip or looking for a truly good old-school spot near Nampo-dong, Bupyeong Yang Gopchang feels like a fail-safe top choice. The salt grill was beautifully crisp outside and rich inside, making every bite a pleasure. Major Busan sights including Jagalchi Market, Yongdusan Park, and Bupyeong Kkangtong Market are all nearby too, so after exploring to your heart’s content, I recommend coming here for dinner, enjoying rich yang gopchang with a cold drink, and easing away the fatigue of your trip!

Finishing with some old money I saw at the lottery shop in front.
