With the mornings and evenings turning cooler lately, I've been craving warm soup more often. This time I visited Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch, known as a go-to spot near Starfield Goyang. I had the refreshing haejangguk (hangover soup) together with chewy yangmuchim (seasoned beef tripe salad), and everything came out so generously portioned that I left feeling fully satisfied.

Bright, neatly arranged tables inside the restaurant

Walking inside, the first thing I noticed was how bright and neatly kept the space was. There were plenty of tables and the overall vibe was comfortable — a place easy to visit whether you're eating alone or with family. The tables and interior were kept clean too, which made for a pleasant start to the meal. We ordered haejangguk and yangmuchim.

Warm steam rose up along with a spicy aroma, and just looking at it felt like it would clear my head.

Steaming, spicy haejangguk broth

The soup was loaded with big chunks of beef blood — not broken into small bits but cut into generous, easy-to-eat pieces, which made it look even more appetizing. The broth wasn't heavy or overly sharp; it was clean and refreshing. It had a spicy yet crisp finish that kept my spoon moving.

There was plenty of other stuff in the bowl too, so eating it with rice made for a filling meal on its own. I'd recommend tasting the broth plain first, then adding seasoning to taste. Mixing in a little warm rice made it even heartier. It's the kind of dish that fits a chilly day craving warm soup, or as a hangover cure the morning after drinking. Anyone looking for a good haejangguk restaurant near Samsong should be satisfied here.

Yangmuchim: chewy tripe with minari and cucumber

A generous plate of yangmuchim

The yangmuchim we ordered alongside the haejangguk was better than expected. What stood out most was the sheer portion size — the moment it arrived, it looked generous. Ordered together with the haejangguk, it was enough for several people to share.

Close-up of chewy-textured yangmuchim

The tripe wasn't tough at all — the chewy texture was really good. The more I chewed, the nuttier it tasted, and I kept reaching for more with my chopsticks.

Yangmuchim with cucumber, onion, and minari

The yangmuchim also had plenty of cucumber, onion, and minari (water dropwort) mixed in. The cucumber was crisp and cool, while the onion and minari added a fragrant, fresh kick. Eating the chewy tripe together with the crunchy vegetables gave it a rich texture and a clean finish in the mouth. The minari's fragrance in particular paired really well with the dish. The seasoning was evenly coated across all the ingredients too.

Well-seasoned yangmuchim paired with haejangguk

The yangmuchim was tasty on its own, but alternating bites with the hot haejangguk made the combo even better. After a spoonful of the hearty, warm soup, a bite of the refreshing yangmuchim seemed to reset my appetite.
