Gangnam beef restaurant with yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang rice: Uno

In short

Uno is a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant that has stayed in the same spot near Exit 1 of Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, since 2004. The Uno galbi platter 800g costs 98,000 won and came with hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef over rice, 15,000 won), beef doenjang rice (12,000 won) and a frosty draft beer, and the staff at Uno grill every cut at the table. Uno is a good pick for tasting several cuts and finishing with a filling rice dish.

I visited Uno, a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant near Exit 1 of Seolleung Station. Turns out it's been running in the same spot since 2004 — over 20 years now. With a wide range of hanwoo dishes and individual cuts to choose from, I could pick according to my taste. Here's my review of Uno, a Seolleung Station beef restaurant known for tender texture and rich juiciness.

First, let me show you a photo of the Uno galbi platter.

Uno opening info: closed days and parking

Uno store info and closed-day notice

They're closed every Sunday, and for this Chuseok holiday they'll be closed for two days, September 25 (Fri) and 26 (Sat). Parking is available — if you call the store from in front of the lot, they'll guide you in.

Steps leading to Uno's entrance with a red sign

The red sign stood out so it wasn't hard to find. You just go up the stairs at the entrance.

Restrooms are separated by gender and located inside the restaurant.

Seating at Uno: regular tables and private rooms

Inside there were both regular seats and private rooms. There was a nice variety of seating types, and with rooms available it looked like a great spot for work dinners or gatherings too.

Uno menu and prices

The menu was diverse. Alongside the Uno galbi platter, hanwoo specials, hanwoo hot pot, and hanwoo bulgogi, there were also individual cuts like shrimp meat, striploin, tenderloin, skirt steak, and beef tongue.

Ordering the Uno galbi platter 800g for 98,000 won

I wanted to try a variety of cuts, so I ordered the Uno galbi platter.

Seasoned radish and scallion side dishes
Wild garlic leaves and doenjang chili paste side dishes

The side dishes were neat and came out looking clean. There was seasoned radish, doenjang chili paste, wild garlic leaves, and seasoned scallions. The radish and scallion sides especially were delicious.

Ox bone and beef blood hangover soup

A blood sausage soup came out, so I took a light sip of the broth before starting on the meat.

What comes on the Uno galbi platter 800g

Finally, the Uno galbi platter I ordered arrived. At 800g the portion was generous, and I could taste a good variety of cuts. The meat quality was really good, with the marbling still visible. Staff grilled it just right for me, so I could eat comfortably.

Diced kkotsal (chuck flap)

I grilled the diced kkotsal (rib finger meat) first, which came cut into bite-sized pieces.

As it grilled, the juices seeped out moist, and the texture was soft and tasty. Being bite-sized made it easy to eat, so I kept reaching for more.

LA galbi (cross-cut short ribs)

Next up, the tempting LA galbi. Usually LA galbi makes you think of seasoned meat, so it was a bit surprising that this wasn't seasoned. Grilled plain, I could enjoy the clean flavor of the meat itself.

With galbisal, the seasoning matters, and this one wasn't too salty — really tasty. The meat was tender too, melting in my mouth.

Beef tongue

Beef tongue served with lemon sauce

Beef tongue was my first time trying it, so I was even more excited. Dipped in the lemon sauce that came with it, the tangy lemon paired surprisingly well with the soft, clean flavor of the tongue.

Finishing with yukhoe bibimbap and beef doenjang rice

Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap, 15,000 won

I love yukhoe (beef tartare), so I also ordered the hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap. There was a generous amount of yukhoe, and it was fresh and delicious on its own.

Beef doenjang rice, 12,000 won

I like mixing rice into doenjang stew, so I ordered the beef doenjang rice as well. With savory doenjang broth, tofu, rice, and various ingredients, it was great to eat either between rounds of meat or as a finisher.

Frosty draft beer, 5,500 won

A glass of frosty draft beer with foam on top

True to its name, the frosty draft beer was really cold, and the foam was poured beautifully, making it clean and refreshing. It was great to sip alongside the meat.

Bingsu for dessert

After the meal, bingsu (shaved ice dessert) came out for dessert. A nice way to finish off the meal.

Chuseok gift sets at Uno

The store was also selling Chuseok gift sets. There's an Uno mixed grill gift set that seemed like a nice pick for this year's Chuseok gift, especially for meat lovers.

I also filmed the dishes I ordered and the interior atmosphere at Uno, the hanwoo beef restaurant near Seolleung Station.
