Uijeongbu Station BBQ lunch: pork jowl and skirt, Geuttaegeujip

In short

Geuttaegeujip is a certified Korean pork (handon) BBQ restaurant on Beomgol-ro near Uijeongbu Station in Gyeonggi, open 24 hours a day all year round. For lunch the writer grilled ₩22,000 pork jowl (hangjeongsal) and ₩20,000 pork skirt (gabrisal) on a cauldron-lid griddle, and her son, who normally avoids grilled fresh pork, tore through the jowl. Between the side dishes, the kimchi and the fried rice (bokkeum gonggi) at the end, Geuttaegeujip made for a fully satisfying meal.

Korean pork table setting at Geuttaegeujip near Uijeongbu Station

Hello, this is Kkakka's family, meat lovers through and through. I heard there was a Korean-pork restaurant near Uijeongbu Station famous for its pork jowl and pork skirt, so I ran straight over. Turns out Geuttaegeujip is a genuine handon (certified Korean pork) spot that blew me away. I think this is the only place I'll be getting gabrisal and hangjeongsal from now on. The kimchi is delicious too, so kimchi-and-pork-belly fans, come on over haha. Finding a truly great restaurant made me want to dance.

Open 24 hours, every day, even on holidays

Geuttaegeujip is open 24 hours a day on Beomgol-ro 145beon-gil in Uijeongbu. It's open on holidays too, so I highly recommend it for family gatherings and holiday meals out.

Since it's open around the clock, you can drop in any time for great meat, kimchi jjigae, or sujebi (hand-torn noodle soup).

The side dishes are so homey and delicious too, haha. Fish cake, muk (jelly), zucchini — totally my taste. They even give you doenjang that's basically rice-thief good ♡ I ate two bowls of rice and then bibimbap on top of that haha. ₩2,000 worth of happiness — you have to try the bibimbap too, hahaha.

Korean pork jowl and pork skirt — the color says it all

Look at that color on the jowl and skirt meat. Let's hear it — meeeat!

At Geuttaegeujip, pork jowl (hangjeongsal) is ₩22,000 and pork skirt (gabrisal) is ₩20,000. My partner has a discerning palate — he likes pork belly too, but he really enjoys jowl and skirt meat. It's surprisingly rare to find a certified handon restaurant that does good domestic jowl and skirt meat, but Geuttaegeujip is a genuine Korean-pork place where the color alone sets it apart.

Grilling meat at lunch in an old-school atmosphere

Geuttaegeujip is famous for its lunchtime kimchi jjigae, but since we're a family that eats meat even in the morning, we happily enjoyed jowl and skirt meat for lunch instead. As you'd expect from a longstanding, genuine restaurant, eating in this old-school (nopo) atmosphere just tastes better. I feel like soju would go down way too easily here.

A legendary meat restaurant!

Geuttaegeujip's proper aging know-how lets you really enjoy the meat ♡ Once you taste it, your tongue knows it's the real deal ♡

Geuttaegeujip menu and prices

  • Pork belly (samgyeopsal) ₩18,000
  • Neck belly (moksamgyeop) ₩18,000
  • Pork jowl (hangjeongsal) ₩22,000
  • Pork skirt (gabrisal) ₩20,000
  • Bibimbap ₩2,000

You have to try the pork jowl. Since it's certified handon, you can trust it, and it's really delicious ♡ It just melts in your mouth, hahaha. Who knew handon could taste this chewy-yet-tender, this perfectly balanced.

Want fried rice? Order the 'bokkeum gonggi'

Under the 'Other' section, there's something called bokkeum gonggi, haha. That's the fried rice. Since the griddle is a cauldron lid haha, I figured there had to be fried rice somewhere — took a long look at the menu before I cracked the secret that bokkeum gonggi means fried rice. Had a good laugh, then ordered just one serving, haha, mistake! I should have skipped the plain rice and ordered fried rice for two instead. It's genuinely delicious, so order one per person, hahaha.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary onion and king oyster mushroom. Everything tastes good grilled in handon fat, hahaha.

A place that impresses with its side dishes

Geuttaegeujip is a side-dish powerhouse. Two thumbs up for the owner's cooking ^^ Honestly everything is delicious, hahaha.

Cauldron-lid griddle: heat control tips

Geuttaegeujip's griddle is a cauldron lid (sotdukkeong). Honestly, I believe pork belly, jowl, and skirt meat are best on a cauldron lid, and sure enough it was delicious, haha. The heat runs strong, so it's even better if you turn it down to medium while grilling. The kimchi is so good too ♡

My picky son, who won't eat raw meat, devoured it

My son is extremely picky about meat and especially avoids raw meat, but he really ate Geuttaegeujip's meat well, hahaha. Ah, turns out my son doesn't do pork belly — only pork jowl, hahaha. From now on we're coming straight to Geuttaegeujip, hahaha.

Last time at a different pork belly place, he didn't take a single bite, but here he quietly ate away giving it a thumbs up, hahaha. Seeing that he takes after me and that this spot suits his picky palate perfectly made me really happy, hahaha.

The fun of wrapping your own ssam

Honestly my partner isn't a fan of ssam (lettuce wraps), but I love them, so I always pile mine high. The garlic grilled in jowl-meat fat was so good, and the onion was delicious too.

Finish with the fried rice — miss it and you'll regret it

The true essence of a cauldron lid is the fried rice. Anyone who leaves without eating it is guilty, hahaha.

The bokkeum gonggi, haha — simple but so good, because the kimchi itself is delicious. We finished it off cleanly and happily, hahaha.

It was even better with the fried rice made fresh for us at the table ♡

The complimentary doenjang jjigae, the meat, and the fried rice were all perfect. I'm definitely coming back — verdict confirmed: real deal restaurant, bang bang bang!!!
