The place has a bit of a Japanese vibe, with the windows thrown wide open, and it's super clean — perfect for enjoying an autumn outdoor-terrace atmosphere!!

For two: small bone BBQ and which spice level?

For two people, one small (小) bone BBQ at Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui is plenty. You can choose a spice level, and level 1 turned out to be less spicy than I expected.

For two, ordering just the small is genuinely more than enough!! We're pretty spice-sensitive so we ordered level 1, and it wasn't as spicy as expected lol. If you can handle at least a Shin Ramyun, I'd recommend level 2-3 haha

True to being a favorite among Euljiro office workers, they have lots of lunch specials — even bone hangover soup and grilled cuttlefish come as lunch specials!! So if you want a light lunch, I'd recommend the bone hangover soup + cuttlefish combo haha

Draft beer at 2pm and the free side dishes

You can see the time, right lol. I ended up ordering a draft beer at 2 in the afternoon.. I couldn't resist once I saw how it looked lol

This is how the basic side dishes come out — classic, no-frills banchan, but they were perfectly seasoned, which I really liked

I highly recommend the rice balls — they pair amazingly well with the bone BBQ!

How big is the small bone BBQ, and how smoky?

Here's today's star!! This is the small portion — it's really generous, with about 6-7 bone pieces, so paired with rice and sides it's plenty for two

The moment you lift it up, the meat just falls right off the bone — that's how tender it is!!

Before the bone BBQ is served, they torch it to give it a smoky, charred flavor

So when you snip up this scallion and eat it together, it's absolute heaven

First of all, the meat is so tender it's not hard to pick off the bone at all — you could eat this on a blind date without it getting messy lol. The sauce tastes kind of like spicy jokbal (pig's feet)? Nutty and rich!

Rice + scallion + bone BBQ together — you can go through about 15 bites like that, yep yep

And here's why Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui is so good!! There's so much garlic that it really cleans up the flavor

The side dish I recommend most at Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui is the potato pancake (gamjajeon). It's crispy on the outside, chewy where the layers overlap, and you dip it in the sugar-and-salt mix served alongside.

You just cut it up like this and eat. And that powder on the side is sugar + salt — the first bite is sweet, like dipping potato in sugar, then the salt kicks in with just the right savoriness — it was fantastic

Crispy and nutty. But it's not made to taste like a fried cracker — it really feels like a proper potato pancake, which made it great to pair with the other dishes!

After enjoying the sugar + salt combo, dipping it in the garlic from the sauce is also super delicious haha
