Daegu Korean restaurant near Duryu Station: Pyeongsang Myeonok bansang
In short
Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang Duryu Negeori Branch is a Korean restaurant serving individual bansang (single-person set meals) right outside Exits 17 and 18 of Duryu Station in Seo-gu, Daegu. For a grandmother's birthday, nine family members each ordered their own set — burdock sotbap (rice cooked in a pot), sosumi bansang, yukhoe bibimbap and grilled fish bansang — so nobody had to share side dishes. Private rooms take phone reservations for five or more guests, so book Pyeongsang Myeonok ahead for a family celebration.

This weekend the whole family got together for grandma's birthday. Here's my review of Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang Duryu Negeori Branch, where we went to celebrate!
Where is Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang Duryu Negeori Branch, and what are the hours?
Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang Duryu Negeori Branch sits right in front of Exits 17 and 18 of Duryu Station on Line 2. Public transit access is excellent!
It's open from 11am to 9pm, with a break time from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. No break time on weekends. Last order is at 8:10pm!

My grandma said she often comes here with her friends, and yep — there were a ton of customers.

Booking for nine people and parking at Pyeongsang Myeonok
Since there were nine of us, we booked ahead before visiting. You can reserve through Naver, and for rooms (available for parties of 5 or more) you need to call.

For parking, just use the lot in front of the restaurant.

Why individual bansang sets mean no sharing side dishes
The best thing about Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang is the variety of bansang (individual set meals) — everyone can pick their own and enjoy a neatly arranged tray. When a big family eats together, you usually can't reach the side dishes on the far side of the table and end up bickering over who eats what — tiring! With everyone getting their own set laid out, it was so much better.

The interior was clean and the spacing between tables was well done. The hanok-style atmosphere was nice too.

Room reservations fill up fast, so book well ahead if you have a family event. I booked at the last minute and sat in the main hall, but honestly the hall was plenty good for a family gathering too.

The menu: bansang sets, bossam and braised fish
There's a wide range of bansang sets, and since it's a myeonok (noodle restaurant), there's also naengmyeon (cold noodles) — apparently made in-house. Prices were reasonable too, which was a plus.

Besides the bansang sets, there were also main dishes like bossam (boiled pork wraps) and braised fish cheek.

The spoons and chopsticks came individually wrapped, which is hygienic and also super convenient for the youngest one setting the table.

What each of the nine family members ordered
Everyone in the family ordered whatever they wanted. Let's take a look at what everyone got.

Burdock sotbap (rice cooked in a pot)
My mom, who loves vegetarian food, ordered the burdock sotbap (hot pot rice). It's packed with burdock and makes for a great warm rice bowl to mix and eat.

Sosumi bansang
My meat-loving dad's sosumi bansang. The bossam comes out neatly arranged, and it's served with a variety of side dishes, making it extra hearty.

Yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef with rice)
My cousin's yukhoe (beef tartare) bibimbap. Mixing freshly cooked sotbap rice with fresh yukhoe and vegetables is quite the treat.

Grilled fish bansang
Grandma wanted grilled fish, so she ordered the grilled fish bansang. The fish was plump and came with a little bossam on the side too, making for a really generous serving.

I'm a hardcore carnivore too, so I ordered the sosumi bansang. Rice, steamed egg, dongchimi (radish water kimchi), fried fish cutlet, seasoned greens... a whole lineup of side dishes just for me, so I could dig into whatever I wanted as much as I wanted.

Look at the color on that meat and kimchi. Wrapping the savory bossam with kimchi and radish salad is a flavor any Korean would love.

The rice was cooked perfectly fluffy too.

The doenjang (soybean paste) soup is shared, kept warm on an induction burner in the middle of the table. Exactly the kind of doenjang soup that hits right at a good meat restaurant.
Is Pyeongsang Myeonok a good spot for a family gathering in Daegu?
This was the restaurant everyone had their hopes pinned on, and the food was neat and genuinely delicious. Being able to eat individual sets was really great. It was easy to talk over the meal, and the staff were kind too, which made for an even happier family gathering. If you're looking for a family gathering restaurant near Seo-gu, Daegu, I highly recommend Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang!!
