Jukdo Market shrimp set for two in Pohang: Gallilli Daegae Hoe
In short
Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang is a snow crab and sashimi restaurant on Jukdo Market-gil in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. Instead of the snow crab set eaten in crab season, this visit was for the lighter shrimp set for two, served course by course: abalone porridge, soy-marinated crab, Pohang-style mulhoe (cold spicy raw fish soup), sea squirt, shrimp sashimi, fried shrimp and fried shrimp heads. No raw fish sashimi came with the set, which was a letdown, but the sweet shrimp and fresh sea squirt made the spread memorable.

Shrimp that gets sweeter and springier the more you chew — go easy on the lemon and dip it in soy sauce instead, that's my recommendation.

Why go to Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang at Jukdo Market, Pohang, for shrimp?
Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang is a crab and sashimi restaurant on Jukdo Market street in Pohang. Now that the weather's cooling down and the days are getting shorter, I keep wanting to drive to the coast! Today I rushed over to this Jukdo Market favorite in Pohang for some plump, sweet shrimp.

Park at the No. 3 public lot and it's just a short walk to Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang. Clean tanks and a friendly owner greeted us.
Inside, the restaurant has spacious tables well suited to groups and families,
The menu at Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang and why we chose the shrimp set for two
Here's the menu

Last time I visited it was crab season so we had the crab set, but this time I wanted something a bit lighter and fresher, so we went straight for the shrimp set for two.
What comes first with the shrimp set: porridge, soy-marinated crab and mulhoe
The trusty abalone porridge came out right after ordering. Warm, it gives your throat a nice preheat,

and then the salty soy-marinated crab and sashimi salad get the real meal started.
You can't skip the corn — a must-have side.

And the carrot salad, which was better than expected. Fresh and light, the kind of thing you'd want to make at home.

Pohang-style mulhoe comes with gochujang (red chili paste) mixed in, so you stir it up like this and take a bite.

The boiled squid was rich and delicious,

tasting exactly as it looks.

The pick of the day: fresh sea squirt
And the sea squirt was way better than expected. No fishy off-taste at all, just the freshness of something just pulled from the sea. Dipped deep in vinegared chili paste and eaten in one bite, the soft texture plus the fragrant sea-squirt aroma kept my hand reaching back — this was my pick of the day. I think I ate most of it myself.

Shrimp sashimi, the main dish — go easy on the lemon
Then the main dish of the day arrived: shrimp. The pale pink flesh gets sweeter the more you chew, and it was light and easy to eat. My tip: don't drizzle on too much lemon — just a little! Too much and you lose the shrimp's natural flavor, so add it gradually as you eat.

Then it was abalone and sea squirt time again. The sea squirt was so good I wanted to order another bowl and eat it all myself. Plump, full of ocean fragrance.

The shrimp is great dipped in soy sauce, but also delicious with no sauce at all — sweet on its own. This place really deserves its reputation as a Jukdo Market favorite in Pohang. The shrimp weren't huge, but the sweetness that built up with each chew was quite something,

and the king oyster mushroom served alongside was so soft the first bite made me wonder if it was squid — I polished off a whole plate of that too.

Fried shrimp, steamed shrimp and fried shrimp heads
After the shrimp sashimi comes fried shrimp and steamed shrimp. The batter on the fried shrimp was soft, so biting into it with the shrimp meat gave a nice single bite of texture, and the steamed shrimp had a good soft, crumbly texture.

And then the fried shrimp heads. The shell on the head is hard, so I recommend removing the top shell and just eating the innards inside. Trying to fit the legs in your mouth along with everything else can get a little uncomfortable, so I'd suggest trimming the legs off before eating.
Who should order the shrimp set for two at Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang?
Inside was like this — roe or something? Either way, it felt like a satisfying meal. It's true that not having raw sashimi is a bit of a letdown, but if you're craving plump, sweet shrimp, this shrimp set at Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang, a Jukdo Market favorite in Pohang, is worth trying at least once. It comes with spicy fish stew and ramyeon too, just the right amount for two people, so if you like shrimp, it's worth giving a shot. It's within 10 minutes of the public parking lot, and beyond shrimp there's a wide range of seafood, so it's also worth visiting in crab season or whenever the seasonal catch is at its best.
