Hi everyone~ it's Ttongguri 😊 It had been a while since I met up with a mom friend for lunch in Gyodong, and since it happened to be while the kids were at kindergarten, I was craving foods we never get to eat normally 🫶 After tons of searching, I found a Thai food spot in Gyodong called 'Thai Yami' — let me introduce it to you.
Is parking at Thai Yami really free for 1 hour?
Parking for Thai Yami was conveniently available at the Hyundai Sun&Vill Jungangno Station officetel ⭐️ 1 hour free if you're dining there.

You can choose surface or basement parking — we went with surface for convenience.
Finding Thai Yami: white exterior with a red sign
After parking, if you go around the building and turn left, you'll see 'Thai Yami' with its clean white interior and eye-catching red sign.

Where's this cat running off to? Haha. Since you couldn't see inside from the street, it made me even more curious.
Inside Thai Yami: a restaurant by day, a bar table by night
Stepping inside Thai Yami, I was struck by an interior that lets you feel both a daytime and nighttime mood at once. The 4-seat tables had a comfortable, casual restaurant feel that was great for chatting, while the bar table on the opposite side had a moody vibe under soft lighting — perfect for couples or friends to come have a drink and quietly soak in the atmosphere.

Since we were planning to chat noisily, we grabbed a 4-seat table 😆 There was even a coat hook, which would be handy for hanging coats in winter haha.
Thai Yami's menu: separate lunch and dinner boards
Interestingly, Thai Yami has separate menus for day and night haha. Besides highballs, draft beer, and Asahi, they also serve non-alcoholic drinks. Both the lunch set and dinner set come with a discount, so keep that in mind.

The signature dishes were pad thai, kai phrai, poo pad pong curry, and Korean beef shabu hot pot. We ordered the pad thai + kai phrai lunch set and a fresh-squeezed orange juice.

Side dishes and fresh-squeezed orange juice at Thai Yami
The side dish was a refreshingly clean-tasting cabbage pickle. Even the little dish and the spoon shape were adorable.

First to arrive was the ice-packed fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was brutally hot that day, and this cooled us right off! Being fresh-squeezed, it wasn't too sweet — just clean and refreshing.

Then came the dishes we ordered — kai phrai, pad thai — plus the enormous bowl of pho we got as a review-event freebie.

Pad thai: mix in the crushed peanuts, squeeze lemon at the end
The must-order dish they recommend at Thai Yami: pad thai 🫶 That sweet-salty-tangy flavor was genuinely delicious. Watch out — the chili on the side is very spicy 😆
Just mix in the crushed peanuts and everything else as you eat. It was generous with shrimp and meat, seasoned just right, with crunchy bean sprouts and carrots — I really enjoyed it. About halfway through, I squeezed some lemon on it, and the fresh zing gave it a whole new flavor 😆

Kai phrai: fried chicken salad with house-made soy sauce dressing
A signature dish made entirely in-house, kai phrai. Chicken seasoned with Thai Yami's own take on a soy-sauce base came plated together with a sweet-and-tangy salad. It tasted like an upscale version of gourmet chicken soba salad 😍

The moment we tasted it, my friend and I said the exact same thing at the same time: "Whoa! This is total beer food!" It made me crave a beer instantly. Honestly, eating this made me think a lot about my daughter haha — it's exactly the kind of upscale, rich sweet-and-salty chicken flavor kids would love 🩷

The review-event pho was a generous portion too
The pho we got from a receipt review was a pretty generous portion too, and the broth had a deep, delicious flavor.

An absolute must-try.

Next time at Thai Yami: Asahi and Korean beef shabu hot pot at the bar table
With its open kitchen, Thai Yami was fun just to watch while eating. Next visit, I'd love to sit at the bar table and try Asahi with the Korean beef shabu hot pot 🫶 If you're in Gyodong looking for Thai food, a different kind of dining experience, or a good-vibe bar, I recommend 'Thai Yami'.
