Daegu pork restaurant with retro decor by Jungangno Station: Juyukjeom
In short
Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch is a pork and grilled trotter restaurant in an alley near Jungangno Station in Jung-gu, Daegu. Inside the retro mother-of-pearl-style room, the writer ordered one plate of black grilled pork trotter (14,900 won) and red pork belly for 2-3 people (22,900 won) with wrap greens from the self bar, and found the trotter chewier once it had cooled. Juyukjeom is a rice-meal spot at lunch and an open-air drinking spot at night, so it pays to pick your time.

I'm a cat, meow ⋰˚★
The weather's been getting warmer lately :) Today I went to Juyukjeom, a night-dining spot in Dongseongno — it runs from lunch specials to late-night outdoor drinking, and I was so happy with it that I wanted to share it with you • •
Where is Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch, and where can you park?
Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch is on the 1st floor of 434-20 Jungang-daero, Jung-gu, Daegu, 112m from Exit 3 of Jungangno Station on Daegu Line 1. It's open daily 11:00–23:00, with last order at 22:00.

It's near Jungangno Station, Daegu Station, and Gyodong, so it's really accessible by public transit. If you're driving, there's no dedicated lot, so you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot — a bit of a hassle.
Walk down the alley and you'll spot the Juyukjeom sign!

There was a menu board right outside the shop, so I could check out what was on offer before going in.

Outdoor night tables and the retro mother-of-pearl interior at Juyukjeom
Outside Juyukjeom there are about 3 tables for outdoor night dining. Maybe because the weather's warming up, quite a few people were already eating outside!

Inside, the retro mother-of-pearl-style interior gave off a cozy feeling, like visiting grandma's house. The tables weren't crammed together, and with mostly 4-person tables, it was great for eating with friends or family.

We wanted to watch baseball on TV while eating, so we sat further inside -

What comes with the meal: side dishes and the self bar
Juyukjeom's basic side dishes are pork kimchi stew and pickled onion :)

I always pay close attention to hygiene at the self-bar, and this place was spotless — not a speck of dust. Each side dish had its own tongs, and the lids were carefully closed, which made me feel it was managed more hygienically.
The self-bar had wrap greens and various side dishes ready to go, so it was convenient to just take as much as you needed.

I grabbed dried radish strips, pickled onion, pickled garlic stems, pickled perilla leaves, lettuce, and more from the self-bar - please make sure to eat the pickled garlic stems and dried radish strips together, they're so so good!!!

I noticed Juyukjeom's company motto hanging on the wall.
If two people eat and one dies, I'll eat the rest.
It was so absurd it made me laugh ㅋㅋㅋㅋ but once you taste it, you'll understand what they mean.

There are aprons hanging on the wall too, so grab one if you need it.
Black grilled pork trotter, 14,900 won a plate: how does it taste?
Juyukjeom's black grilled trotter is ₩14,900 for one plate, in a soy sauce-based marinade. The outside was slightly chewy and the inside moist, a different texture from regular jokbal (pig's trotter).
While our red pork and black trotter were cooking •• the pre-grilling room was positioned outside, so we could watch the pre-grilling process while browsing the self-bar. It was surprisingly fun to watch haha.
The black grilled trotter's soy sauce-based seasoning wasn't as salty or intense as I expected, and it had a nice sweetness that would go well as a drinking snack.

They gave us scissors at the table too, which made it easy to cut up the trotter. It's fun to pull it apart with tongs, but if you want to eat it neatly, I'd recommend cutting it into small pieces with the scissors ⭐️
Personally, I found it chewier and springier once it cooled down rather than while it was hot. If you like a chewy texture, this is worth trying at least once haha.

Red pork belly for 2-3 people at 22,900 won: portion and flavour
Juyukjeom's red pork belly is ₩22,900 for 2-3 servings (350g), in a gochujang marinade. The seasoning is rich and spicy, real rice-thief style. There was no gamey smell and the texture was tender, though it might be a bit intense for those who can't handle spice well.

The portion isn't super generous for 2-3 people, so I'd recommend adding a side dish :)

There were bean sprouts underneath the pork, and the texture went well together - though I did wish there were more sprouts ㅠ

The pork was really tender and satisfying — next time I'll order the black pork instead! To my taste, the soy sauce marinade was much more savory and delicious than the gochujang one.

They also had a really wide variety of drinks. Perfect for enjoying the night-dining vibe with a drink in this kind of weather!!
After eating, there was Febreze outside the shop so we could freshen up and finish up cleanly.
Is Juyukjeom worth a visit in Daegu?
- ✔️ Red pork is a spicy-sweet flavor that goes great with rice
- ✔️ Black grilled trotter's chewy texture is the charm
- ✔️ A good pick if you're looking for something less common in Gyodong
This place has two different charms — a rice-meal spot at lunch, and a good place for meat and drinks at night — so the vibe changes quite a bit depending on the time of day! If you're looking for a good restaurant in Daegu's Gyodong or Dongseongno area, it's worth a visit :)
