Gyeongju restaurant for giant pork cutlet: Midam Kitchen

In the early autumn, with a cool breeze in the air, we took a little trip to Gyeongju. 🌿

You know what they say—food comes first! As soon as we arrived, we looked for a good lunch spot on Hwangridan-gil. I’d like to introduce a place where you can enjoy a relaxed meal with your child.

Midam Kitchen and the tranquil mood of Hwangridan-gil

Its exterior has that unmistakable Hwangridan-gil charm, so we spotted it right away from afar. The cozy atmosphere of the hanok and green lawn was so pretty. We arrived right at opening time and went in as the very first guests. 😎

A relaxed meal in a spacious dining room and private room

Restaurants on Hwangridan-gil are usually small, crowded, and noisy. Midam Kitchen felt much more relaxed. The tables were large and generously spaced, making it easy to talk without worrying about the people around us, and it even had private rooms.

Even while we were eating, guests kept coming in—from couples on dates to families with children—but the space was roomy, so it never felt distracting and remained comfortable.

Most touching of all, the owner noticed our child right away and thoughtfully brought out children’s tableware. It may seem like a small thing, but that kind consideration put us in such a good mood before the meal had even begun. 😎

Beef cream risotto, pork loin cutlet, and quattro cheese pizza

Ordering was easy and convenient through the table kiosk. We ordered three dishes—beef cream risotto, pork loin cutlet, and quattro cheese pizza—and the portions were generous enough for our family of three.

Beef cream risotto

The cream sauce was smooth, while the rice grains were plump and pleasantly chewy, so we really enjoyed it. Rather than having the soft, spread-out rice texture typical of risotto, the grains still had a nice bite, which I personally loved. If you like cream sauce, I think you’ll find it reliably delicious. My husband and I thought this was the best dish. Highly recommended‼️

Pork loin cutlet

And then there was the pork loin cutlet, which surprised us a little the moment it arrived, haha. Owner!! Shouldn’t this be renamed the “giant pork loin cutlet”? 😂 It was one of the biggest pork cutlets I’ve ever seen.

It looked two or three times the size of my husband’s hand 🥹. The cutlet filled the plate, so it was satisfying from the moment we saw it, and it tasted good too. I think it would be especially nice to order and share with your child.

Quattro cheese pizza

The pizza was generously topped with cheese and came with honey for dipping, and the combination was so good.

Pizza honey sauce, jalapeños, and pickled radish to enjoy alongside it. Even the crust was nutty and warm, as though it had just come out of a wood-fired oven, so it was delicious. Our pizza-loving child kept saying it was yummy and happily munched away.

When you want a comfortable lunch on Hwangridan-gil

Hwangridan-gil has so many pretty cafés and great restaurants, but because it gets so busy, it isn’t easy to find somewhere quiet and relaxed for a meal.

Midam Kitchen has wide spacing between tables and a generally roomy interior, so it was a great place to visit when we wanted to step away from Hwangridan-gil’s bustling atmosphere and eat comfortably. With private rooms too, it seemed like a good option for family meals or gatherings, and it would be lovely for a date as well!
