Vietnamese restaurant in Gyodong, Daegu: 34,000-won set at Thai Yami
In short
Thai Yami is a Vietnamese and Thai restaurant in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu, tucked behind the Novotel about 481m from Exit 3 of Jungangno Station. At lunch, Thai Yami serves a set discount of kai phrai plus pad thai for 34,000 won, ordered here with fresh-squeezed orange juice. The pad thai was seasoned a little strongly but addictive, and one bite of the kai phrai explained why it is the bestseller — a lunch that beat a 50-50 track record with Vietnamese restaurants.

I was searching for a good lunch spot in Gyodong, Daegu, and found a Vietnamese-Thai restaurant called Thai Yami. Vietnamese restaurants have about a 50% success rate for me, so I went in curious about how this one would turn out. This is Thai Yami.

The exterior stood out with a cute character logo and a clean, tidy interior visible from outside.

Inside, there aren't many tables, but that gives it a more intimate feel. There's a bar seat too, and you can watch the whole cooking process, which made the open kitchen feel really trustworthy.

Side dishes and fresh-squeezed orange juice at Thai Yami
Thai Yami's side dishes are simple. The fresh-squeezed orange juice was really squeezed — it had pulp in it and tasted like real orange, not just fructose syrup.

What does Thai Yami's pad thai taste like? How spicy is it?
Thai Yami's pad thai (₩15,000) has a slightly strong seasoning, but it was much better than the bland versions I've had elsewhere. It had that addictive quality that kept pulling me back for more. It's a bit spicy, so if you're really sensitive to spice, it might be a little tough.

Kai phrai, the bestseller at Thai Yami
There's a reason kai phrai is listed as Thai Yami's best menu item. I could tell the moment I took my first bite.

The kai phrai was truly delicious, and paired with the well-seasoned pad thai, it was fantastic together.

Is the Thai Yami lunch set worth it? Final verdict
Today's lunch was completely satisfying. Every dish was worth ordering, and I'd love to come back to try the other bestsellers, signature dishes, and the pho too.
