Cheonan Korean restaurant for a webfoot octopus set: Bulnaneun Jjukkumi

In short

Bulnaneun Jjukkumi Yuryang Direct Branch is a Korean restaurant below Taejosan in Cheonan, Chungnam. After a walk on the Taejosan boardwalk, I had the medium-spicy stir-fried webfoot octopus and perilla seed noodle soup set; the smoky, springy octopus was wonderful, while the noodles soothed the heat. A great stop for a family or group meal after a walk.

Autumn—I've waited so long for it, and it would be a shame to stay home. Walking the Taejosan boardwalk with its blue sky and gentle breeze settles my urge to wander out the door the moment I open my eyes, at least a little.

The walk made me hungry, and I was suddenly craving smoky webfoot octopus for the first time in ages. So I dashed down below Taejosan.

Besides smoky webfoot octopus, there is webfoot octopus with pork belly, seafood scallion pancake, whole fried squid, fried shrimp, house-made pork cutlet, cheese pork cutlet, and more—so bring grandparents and children along too. It is a family menu with nothing missing.

I wanted the perilla seed noodle soup, so I gave up the fried shrimp. I will definitely come back for the fried shrimp next time. I ordered the stir-fried webfoot octopus, perilla seed noodle soup, and rice set at medium spice.

First came the basic vegetable side dishes to calm the spice. Seaweed soup and bean sprouts are a must. If you need more, head to the salad bar!

A pairing of deeply smoky webfoot octopus and perilla seed noodle soup

Now everything is here. Put the smoky webfoot octopus over rice, add assorted vegetables, mix it all up, and take a bite—wow, the smoky flavor fills your mouth.

The octopus is neither salty nor sweet, never tough, and delightfully springy and chewy. It goes down so easily. That intense smoky flavor!!! How did they do this?

We homemakers have a habit of figuring out recipes as we eat and writing them down in our heads, and I honestly wanted to take the secret with me. Though I suppose it is a secret because it is their secret...

Even at medium spice, I was going "hoo, hoo" because I cannot handle heat very well. The owner said medium is a little spicier than Shin Ramyun.

When it gets spicy, pile on the bean sprouts and eat it in a lettuce wrap—it turns mild. I put out the remaining fire with seaweed soup.

While I was eating the smoky webfoot octopus, the perilla seed noodle soup finished cooking. Its savory, milky broth was like Korean beef soup, and the heat disappeared before I knew it. Refreshing, soft, and chewy. I am so glad I chose the perilla seed noodle soup.

I was curious about the paper-cup coaster, so I turned it over. What could it be? Haha, turn one over when you visit.

After finishing the smoky webfoot octopus at Bulnaneun Jjukkumi Yuryang Direct Branch, a Cheonan lunch favorite, I came out holding a coffee and the words on the banner above caught my eye. Reading them made me unexpectedly emotional.

The first time is chance, but the next time becomes a reason. With the same heart today, too~

They say business is not about selling things but about selling people—this must be that kind of heart, right? So moving, so moving!!! I hope Bulnaneun Jjukkumi Yuryang Direct Branch remains a beloved place with a wait for people who want to taste sincerity, forever.
