In short

Sikkkeop Yongin Gimnyangjang-jeom is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Yongin Jungang Market in Yongin, Gyeonggi, serving a raw meat platter of four cuts with charcoal-grilled marinated galbi. I went out for meat near Yongin Jungang Market. I'd been happy with this place before, so this time there was no debate — straight to Sikkkeop!!

Sikkkeop has a great variety of cuts, and the meat is chewy to the point of being almost springy. There are menu items here that I go crazy for every time, so this is a Yongin Jungang Market meat restaurant I really want you to try at least once! If you're looking for a BBQ spot near Yongin Jungang Market, take note.

What four cuts come in Sikkkeop's raw meat platter?

After settling in at Sikkkeop, this time I ordered the raw meat platter. The platter comes with four cuts together: pork belly, kkodeul mokssal (chewy pork neck), chimasal (skirt meat), and deungsimdeossal (a cut near the loin). It was nice being able to try several cuts evenly instead of just eating one kind.

Once the fire was up and I started grilling, a staff member came over and showed me where to place each cut. She explained that fattier cuts can splatter oil from the heat, so it's better to keep them toward the edge rather than the center. Thanks to that tip, I got to eat without getting splattered — and it was delicious!

The basic side dishes included ssam vegetables, shredded scallion with ssamjang, garlic, pickled onion, kimchi, and some kind of seasoned vegetable side.

And on top of that, my absolute favorite Sikkkeop item — cheonggukjang, fermented soybean stew — comes included for free!!! Order a bowl of rice and eat it with just the cheonggukjang and honestly it's a full meal on its own. This is the first cheonggukjang I've had with so little smell and so much nutty flavor. I love Sikkkeop's cheonggukjang so much!!

Chimasal vs. pork belly, kkodeul mokssal and deungsimdeossal: how each cut tastes

First bite went to the chimasal once it was cooked through. Chimasal felt totally different from the usual pork belly or pork shoulder — softer and a bit fattier, melting gently in the mouth. If kkodeul mokssal is memorable for its chewy texture, chimasal is memorable for its soft, nutty flavor.

Next I went for the familiar, welcome pork belly. Pork belly is always good — grilled to a nice golden color with just the right amount of fat, it was nutty with plenty of juiciness. Made me think: the classic really does the job.

Then I tried the kkodeul mokssal. Normally when you think of pork neck, you imagine a mild, tender texture, but here the kkodeul mokssal is, true to its name, seriously chewy!!

Chewy grilled kkodeul mokssal

The more you chew, the springier it gets — clearly different from regular pork neck. I found myself thinking, can pork neck really be this chewy and springy? If you like meat with texture, kkodeul mokssal will probably win you over.

Lastly I grilled the deungsimdeossal, and that was delicious too. Eating all four cuts together, each with a slightly different texture and flavor, kept things from getting repetitive — I just kept eating.

Sikkkeop's Busan milmyeon: noodles in broth or spicy mixed

There's one more thing I always order at Sikkkeop — Busan milmyeon (wheat noodles).

Sikkkeop's Busan milmyeon, water and spicy mixed styles

This time I ordered both the water milmyeon and the spicy mixed milmyeon. The water milmyeon is a bit different from a typical mul-naengmyeon — usually mul-naengmyeon comes in a clean broth without any chili paste, but Sikkkeop's water milmyeon comes with a generous amount of broth plus chili paste mixed right in. So you get both the seasoning kick and the broth flavor from the very first bite.

After eating meat, a cool bite of water milmyeon feels like it resets your palate completely, which pairs really well with the meat. I have no idea why Busan milmyeon is this good. I came here for meat and at some point find myself just continuously eating noodles instead... The spicy mixed milmyeon goes great alongside the meat, and the water milmyeon is perfect for finishing the meal. If you want something a little different from naengmyeon at a BBQ place, I'd recommend the Busan milmyeon too.

Adding charcoal-grilled marinated galbi to the order

By the time I'd finished the raw meat platter, the cheonggukjang, and the milmyeon, I was honestly already full — but as the meat was running low, I ended up ordering more, the marinated galbi (ribs).

Table setting with the added order of marinated galbi

When it comes to charcoal-grilled meat, I really think marinated galbi is the ultimate combo. Placing well-marinated ribs on the charcoal, the sweet marinade aroma rises up and reignites the appetite.

Once cooked, the ribs turned out really tender and soft. The sweet, salty flavor typical of marinated galbi with a hint of charcoal aroma added on top — it was delicious as always. Especially the meat clinging to the rib bone — you just can't pass that up. I picked the bones clean, and the slightly crisped bits were surprisingly tasty. To me it's like the crispy edge of a kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) — that kind of role.

Meat crisped right off the rib bone

It's not as flashy a menu item as the main meat, but there's a real satisfaction in gnawing off the crispy bits at the end. Even full, if there's plain white rice around, I just keep going.

What's on the self-serve bar at Sikkkeop?

Sikkkeop also has a separate self-serve bar. It was nice being able to comfortably grab vegetables, sauces, or side dishes as needed. When you're eating meat you sometimes run low on ssam vegetables or banchan, and it's convenient to just help yourself instead of having to keep calling a staff member over. Also a good feature if you like eating lots of vegetables with your meat.

Why Sikkkeop is worth a stop near Yongin Jungang Market

If you want to try a variety of cuts, ordering the raw meat platter and comparing several is a great option, and if you love the classic flavor of charcoal-grilled meat, I'd recommend the marinated galbi too. More than anything, I enjoyed my visit here before, and I was satisfied again this time — this is a place I know I'll think of again whenever I want meat near Yongin Jungang Market.
