Korean hot pot restaurant in Yongin Jungang Market: Geumganejangteo

In short

Geumganejangteo Yongin Jungang Market Branch is a newly opened Korean hot pot restaurant inside Yongin Jungang Market in Yongin, Gyeonggi. On a weekday evening the single-portion sosuyuk jeongol (boiled pork hot pot) came with head meat, boiled pork cuts and beef tendon in a rich broth, finished by simmering sweet glutinous scorched rice in what was left. Geumganejangteo is a good place to fill up on a warm meal after browsing the market.

I finally made it back to Yongin Jungang Market! I like visiting now and then because you can browse the market and snack your way through it. This time I was looking for something filling to eat inside the market, and that's how I ended up at Geumganejangteo Yongin Jungang Market Branch :)

What kind of restaurant is Geumganejangteo Yongin Jungang Market Branch?

Geumganejangteo, a Yongin Jungang Market favorite, just opened but already had quite a few customers! My boyfriend and I went at a somewhat awkward weekday dinner time, but once it hit 7:30 p.m., the place filled up fast, haha. Some things really are the soul food of Korean men 🍚

Parking was available in the building's basement lot, and on weekday evenings you could also park at the Cheoin-gu Office parking lot out front, so that's where I parked 🚗 The interior looked freshly opened and clean, but still had little props that gave it a cozy, market-style feel true to its name 🎏

The self-serve banchan bar: green onion kimchi is the standout

Besides the basic side dishes, there was a self-serve bar where you could grab extra banchan or dishware yourself 🥣

The kimchi was so good we went back for more, haha. That green onion kimchi is a work of art 🥗

Sosuyuk jeongol for one: how generous the pot looks

Geumganejangteo had several menu items, but after some thought we ordered the sosuyuk jeongol single portion 🙋‍♀️ Honestly, when I hear boiled pork hot pot, I picture a shallow, brothy dish, but this one looked hearty from the get-go, so I was excited! You order through the kiosk at each table.

After ordering, the dish came out packed with meat and various ingredients — plenty for two people to share. And maybe because it's a warm soup dish, it tasted even better after coming in from browsing the market 🤭

The visuals were incredible 🫢 The broth came out separately in a kettle, so whenever you ran low, you could just pour more in and keep simmering!

We piled in a ton of chives too, and since boiled pork hot pot can taste a bit plain on its own, eating it with kimchi was truly the best part! They told us to add the scorched rice with the broth after finishing the meat 🍚

The meat looked even more generous in person than in photos! Since it's a hot pot, you get to eat it warm right at the table, and the broth pairs really well with rice too. My only regret was driving, so I couldn't have a drink with it 🍺

How the pork tastes with the chili soy sauce

The meat wasn't too dry — it was tender, so it was delicious with the broth 🥩 Especially since when I eat hot pot or soup dishes, I prefer eating the meat together with the broth and other ingredients rather than just the meat alone, and this was exactly that kind of dish, haha.

The chili soy sauce that came with it was tangy and slightly sweet, so dipping the meat and vegetables in it together was so good 😋 With head meat, regular boiled pork cuts, and beef tendon all mixed in, it was a great dish for enjoying different textures too!

A bite of meat, a spoonful of broth — before you know it, your hand keeps reaching back for more! Rather than being sharply spicy or intense, it was the easy, comforting combination of meat and broth that worked so well 👍

Finishing the broth with glutinous scorched rice

After we finished the meat, we added more broth and put in the scorched rice. Because it's sweet rice scorched rice, it turns thick and soaks up all the broth — it was so good that if I hadn't already been full, I would've kept asking for more, haha 🍚🍴

A bite of diced radish kimchi, boiled pork, and scorched rice all together 🥄 Eating a warm pot of hot pot in that cozy, market-style atmosphere made me feel like I was on a little trip, haha. I found this place while wondering what to eat near Yongin Jungang Market, and I left satisfied after a hearty meal of sosuyuk jeongol 🤍 If you're planning to visit Yongin Jungang Market, browse the market and enjoy some good food while you're at it :-)
