Duruchigi and kimchi pancake with a kids' menu, Daegu: Cafe Dongi

In short

Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch is a Korean restaurant in Daemyeong-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu, near Apsan and Seobu Bus Terminal. The family ordered duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork), kimchi stew, tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) for one full table, and a separate kids' menu made feeding a child easy. Cafe Dongi is a good family pick when you can't decide and want to try a bit of everything.

Full Korean meal spread at Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Branch

These days we go out to eat with the kids a lot, and picking a menu has become a real puzzle. I look for places that suit adult tastes while still being kid-friendly and filling enough for a proper meal, and Cafe Dongi always comes to mind. We go there often and I've been to pretty much every branch, so this time we tried the Daemyeong branch. As always, the food was clean and delicious, so I came away very satisfied again.

It's a great spot for family meals in particular, so I wanted to recommend it to anyone looking for a good Korean restaurant around Daemyeong-dong or Apsan.

Why order a bit of everything at Cafe Dongi, a Daemyeong-dong Korean restaurant

Cafe Dongi isn't really the kind of place you go to for one specific standout dish — it's more the type of place where you order a variety of menus and share a generous spread as a family.

This time we ordered duruchigi, kimchi stew, and tangsuyuk again. When you can't decide what to order, it's actually easier just to pick a bunch of things. My husband loves this place so much it's basically one of his all-time favorite restaurants, and my little prince at home really eats well here too.

The kimchi stew I order every time at Cafe Dongi

Whenever I come to Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Branch, I always order the kimchi stew (kimchi-jjigae). My husband loves kimchi stew too, so it's one dish that never misses an order whenever we come. The broth has deep flavor and goes so well with rice that I personally always end up ordering it here.

Eating duruchigi while taking a spoonful of the kimchi stew broth makes the rice go down even faster. Ordering a stew alongside a main dish instead of just one menu made the meal much more filling.

Is Cafe Dongi good with kids? The kids' menu

One reason Cafe Dongi is great for bringing kids is that it has a separate kids' menu. Eating out with kids usually means picking out bits from the adult menu that they can eat, but having a proper kids' menu makes things so much easier. My little prince ate even better because he got his own kids' menu.

Even on days he usually doesn't eat much, he polishes off two bowls of rice here, so this is a place I especially think of for family meals with him.

Duruchigi at Cafe Dongi: the ultimate rice stealer

The duruchigi we ordered this time was delicious as always.

The seasoning wasn't just intensely spicy for the sake of it — it paired perfectly with rice, so my chopsticks kept going back for more. Duruchigi alone would be enough to finish a whole bowl of rice in no time; it really deserves the title of 'rice thief.' Meat and sauce together with a spoonful of rice was such a good combination that the whole family enjoyed it. It's the kind of dish that's rarely disliked, so it's a good pick to order for a family meal.

Tangsuyuk and my favorite kimchi pancake at Cafe Dongi

Another dish you can't skip at Cafe Dongi is the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). We order it almost every time we come, and it's still delicious no matter how many times we eat it. The meat is especially tender, so it's a dish my kid really eats well too.

The kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) is really good for the price too... my favorite kimchi jeon!!

Even kids who don't normally eat much sometimes do great with a kids' menu when eating out — and this place has menus that kids will like, so I think it's a solid spot for family meals. If you're looking for somewhere to have lunch or dinner with your kids around Apsan or Daemyeong-dong, this might be worth keeping in mind.

Cafe Dongi, a Daemyeong-dong restaurant made for family meals

Since we go to Cafe Dongi so often, visiting this Daemyeong branch felt natural, and as always the food was satisfying overall. I especially think it's a great place to go when you can't decide what to eat.

Eating tangsuyuk together with rice

Tangsuyuk can be a tricky choice when eating out with kids, but here the meat is tender and tasty enough that it works well for kids too. My little prince always eats it so well with rice whenever it comes out. That's probably why we end up ordering tangsuyuk along with duruchigi or kimchi stew every time we visit Cafe Dongi.

Lemonade perk from a receipt review

They also give you lemonade if you leave a receipt review, so I definitely recommend doing that and grabbing it!

Barley gangjeong eaten after the meal

The barley gangjeong (crispy barley candy) they give after the meal is honey-sweet too!!

Adults get to enjoy delicious Korean food while the kids have their own menu, so the whole family could eat comfortably together. Above all, since this is a place our family already visits often, we came away happy once again. If you're looking for a filling Korean meal around Daemyeong-dong, Apsan, or Seobu Bus Terminal, Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Branch is worth a visit. We'll definitely be back for another family meal next time. Duruchigi, kimchi stew, and tangsuyuk — once again, we ate very well and very full.
