Spicy gopchang with secret sauce wraps in Anjirang, Daegu: Gopchang119

In short

Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch is an oak-smoked gopchang (grilled beef intestines) restaurant in the heart of Anjirang Gopchang Alley in Nam-gu, Daegu. The order was the spicy vegetable gopchang A set (29,000 won) and the snow cheese fried rice (5,000 won), eaten exactly as the menu board recommends: wrapped in perilla leaf and pickled radish with the secret sauce, vinegared garlic and mayonnaise. The gopchang had little of its usual strong smell and the heat stayed clean, and the fried rice turned it into a filling full meal.

Mornings and evenings are finally cool now that fall's arrived~ Today's post is a record of a gopchang (grilled beef intestines) spot I visited a few days ago. Whenever I crave gopchang in Daegu, Anjirang Gopchang Alley naturally comes to mind~

Gopchang119 in Anjirang Gopchang Alley, right in the center of the alley

This time I went to Gopchang119, a gopchang spot right in the center of the alley. Walking a little way in, there were already customers even though it was still early — I knew right away I'd made a good choice haha

The sign is big enough to spot from far away, so it was easy to find.

At the entrance there's a big sign saying you can eat without worrying about the smell, which made me curious what kind of place it was — but honestly, that's the smell of a good restaurant haha

After eating it myself, I sort of understood why they wrote that.

Drum-can tables and black-tone interior

Inside, the space is decorated with drum-can tables and a black color scheme, giving it a pretty hip vibe. Personally I love round tables so much..

The sparkly lighting caught my eye too haha, it looked really nice.

What really stood out to me, though, was the phrase 'oak smoked.'

They smoke it with domestic oak wood and then stir-fry it over direct flame, apparently. It was full of that smoky, charred flavor.

Spicy vegetable gopchang A set, ₩29,000 — how much for two people?

I ordered the spicy vegetable gopchang A set for ₩29,000 and the snow cheese fried rice for ₩5,000. Ordering the set gets you a discount, so I'd recommend it.

Vegetable gopchang for two with glass noodles, onion, and perilla leaf

The gopchang came with glass noodles, onion, and perilla leaf and other vegetables mixed in, so it looked really generous even just visually. It's meant for two people, and the portion was plenty~

Eating the gopchang, the usual strong smell wasn't there — the charred flavor blended with the vegetables for a savory taste.

I expected the spicy version to be pretty intense, but it was cleaner and milder than I thought, so I kept eating without stopping.

The menu board's tips for eating gopchang the tasty way

Looking at the menu board, there was also a separate note on how to eat gopchang the best way.

Put pickled radish on a perilla leaf, add gopchang dipped in the secret sauce, then top with chopped garlic and mayonnaise — that's the method, and I tried following it exactly.

The secret sauce, garlic sauce, and mayonnaise were all set out separately on the table, so it was nice being able to mix your own combination.

I dipped my gopchang in both the secret sauce and the garlic sauce together, and it had a different, deeper savory flavor than eating it plain.

A glass of soju paired with the gopchang

And of course soju was a must haha

Snow cheese fried rice, ₩5,000, with a torch fire performance

You've got to try the Korean 'dessert' haha. After eating a good amount of gopchang, I finished things off with fried rice, as one does.

This time I ordered the snow cheese fried rice — rice fried in the leftover sauce, then piled with cheese that gets melted on top, so the spicy sauce and savory cheese went really well together. They even did a fire performance with a torch.

After the gopchang and then the fried rice, it was a really filling way to finish a meal.

There was a review event too

When I visited, they were also running an event where writing a review got you a free drink or alcoholic beverage.
