Anseong Gongdo bakery café where butter scones sell out: Chat Baker

Out for a drive around Anseong and Pyeongtaek, I heard there was a salt bread spot worth stopping for near Anseong Starfield and Anseong Farm Land — so here's my review of the brunch café Chat Baker.

You can always tell a good-vibe café when you see one, right? Recommended as one of the most relaxing cafés in the Anseong-Pyeongtaek area, this place is a newly opened Anseong café that won an award in the café/dessert category of the 2025-2026 Korea Consumer Industry Awards.

Chat Baker is known as a brunch spot too, and it's often recommended as a good café for brunch in the Pyeongtaek-Anseong Gongdo area.

The bakery lineup is impressive. Since everything is mixed and baked in-house from early morning every single day, it's a clear step up from bakeries that just bake pre-made frozen dough. The buttery layers, the smell that fills the space as fresh bread cools, the balanced texture in every bite — all of it is what's earning Chat Baker such good reviews in Anseong Gongdo.

Inside Chat Baker near Anseong Farm Land: 1st floor, 2nd floor and terrace

A warm, comfortable atmosphere. Walking into Chat Baker near Anseong Farm Land, the first thing you notice is that comfortable yet stylish mood. It's not over-decorated — it feels like the natural ease of a café, so just sitting there made me feel a little more relaxed. The space spans the 1st floor, 2nd floor and a terrace. The photo below is the 1st floor. There's a door behind the counter that leads out to the terrace.

It's a good spot to chat over coffee, and just as good for spending time alone quietly. What I like about Chat Baker is that while it's clearly a place for enjoying bread and coffee, it doesn't stop at just being a 'bakery café.' Taste matters when picking a café, but in the end it's the feeling the space gives you that makes you want to come back — and I thought Chat Baker had that down pretty well.

Is the plain butter scone worth 3,500 won?

I'd heard good things about the brunch menu too and almost ordered that, but figured bread and coffee would go well together, so I went with bread. I only got two butter scones, but the buttery aroma as I ate them was incredible — and the inside was so moist. When I finished and tried to buy more on my way out, they were already sold out. Next time I want to grab every scone left in the shop — that's how much of a life-changing scone I met at Chat Baker.

The salt bread to order at Chat Baker

And one more thing. If you love salt bread, you have to try Chat Baker's version (you can also get it for free through the receipt review event). Salt bread might look similar everywhere, but the taste can vary a lot — the texture of the crust, the layers inside, the nutty richness of the butter, and the balance with a subtle saltiness all matter, and Chat Baker's combination was really good. One bite gives you that nutty flavor with a hint of salt that keeps you coming back — the kind of bread where you tell yourself 'just one piece' but end up taking another bite after a sip of coffee.

Personally, if you visit Chat Baker, I'd recommend getting both a scone and a salt bread to share alongside your coffee. Alternating between the plain scone and the nutty, salty bread makes each one's charm stand out even more.

Floor seating and the bread-warming oven upstairs

Heading up to the 2nd floor, there's a microwave-style oven set up for reheating your bread.

Freshly baked bread is best of course, but if you're eating bread that was baked in the morning later in the afternoon, warming it up a bit in that oven downstairs will definitely taste even better.

The space has a nice sense of openness between seats, and there's also floor seating, so you can bring young kids and still enjoy a relaxed brunch or drink.

These days there are plenty of pretty, stylish cafés, but not many that actually stick in your memory afterward. Chat Baker was one of those oddly memorable places, between the mood of the space, the taste of the bread, and the special added experience of live performances. Having visited in person, this large Pyeongtaek-Anseong bakery felt less like a simple coffee-and-bread café and more like a place where you enjoy good bread in a nice space, and sometimes catch a live show too.

More than coffee: live music at Chat Baker

One reason Chat Baker feels a little more special than other cafés is that it also hosts live performances. Enjoying coffee and bread at a café is already fun enough, but add music and a show on top of that, and the whole mood of the space changes completely. A quiet coffee spot suddenly turns into a small cultural venue the moment a performance starts. That's an experience you don't easily get at typical large chain cafés. Being able to enjoy delicious bread and coffee along with good music is a pretty appealing point that's unique to Chat Baker.
