These days the midday heat still lingers, so I keep looking for places to cool off. Not long ago, my friends and I headed near Anseong Farm Land and stopped by Chat Baker, a brunch café in Anseong's Gongdo neighborhood. I'd been to this 1,650㎡ (500-pyeong) large bakery café before for bread and coffee, but I hadn't seen the outdoor terrace in winter — this time I got to check out the massive 13-meter water curtain and even catch a note about live performances. Here's my report on this multi-purpose rest spot.

Chat Baker is a large bakery café located in Gongdo, Anseong. The space is spacious enough for a group visit, and I saw plenty of families there too. Walking in, you're greeted by a wide array of baked goods and desserts.

It's a great spot for a relaxed coffee break, and since there's a full brunch menu too, you can handle a meal and café time in one stop. I thought it could work well for a brunch meetup in Anseong. This time, since we were already pretty full, we just ordered drinks and a cookie.

What is the 13-meter water curtain like in person?

What caught my eye the most was, without question, the massive water curtain on Chat Baker's terrace.

In winter, this café makes it 'snow' every hour, but seeing water actually falling from 13 meters up was far more impressive than I expected. Watching a huge stream of water drop all at once, sparkling in the sunlight, was really beautiful. Just looking at the falling water made me feel cooler somehow. Instead of loud music, hearing the trickling water made it feel like a real little break, even if just for a moment.

Watching droplets stream down the glass window makes it feel like you're spending a rainy day inside the café. Outside: a cool cascade. Inside: rainy-day vibes. It's the same water curtain, but the feeling changes depending on where you're sitting, which I found really interesting. It's great for enjoying coffee in a cool atmosphere while it's still hot out, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a brunch café in Anseong Gongdo.

Since it was so hot that day, my friends and I picked lemon ice-shot Americano, vanilla latte, Americano, and chocolate cookie.

Everyone likes different drinks, so we ended up ordering a variety. I had the lemon ice-shot Americano first. The refreshing lemon flavor combined with iced tea and a coffee shot made it both sweet and pleasantly bitter — perfect for a hot day. Drinking it on the terrace right by the cool falling water curtain made it feel even more refreshing.

My friend who came along ordered the vanilla latte, which paired the smooth latte with a sweet vanilla aroma — great alongside dessert. And of course we couldn't skip the classic Americano. If you like the pure taste of coffee, Americano is always a safe choice. We each picked our favorite drink and talked for a long while, watching the water curtain. Moments like that, simple as they seem, ended up feeling surprisingly healing. We were too full to try the bakery items that day.

Still, it felt like a waste to leave without trying something, so I got a chocolate cookie to go. I brought it to share with friends at the playground, and the reaction was way better than I expected! The kids passed it around and said it was delicious, and it disappeared in no time. Chocolate really is the truth for kids, haha. It's great to eat right at the café, but it also works well as a snack for kids or a bakery item to bring home.

Chat Baker offers more than just coffee and bakery items — there's a full brunch menu too. With dishes like truffle mushroom cream risotto, pollock roe shrimp oil pasta, tomato seafood pasta, and basil cream gnocchi, I want to come back and properly try the meal menu next time.

This time my friends and I kept it light with just coffee, but next time I want to go on an empty stomach and properly enjoy the brunch and bread.

Since the space is so large, it seems good for family gatherings or meetups with friends, and also great for just spending time comfortably.

Pets and parking at Chat Baker

Chat Baker says pets are welcome on the outdoor terrace only. The terrace with the water curtain has such a nice atmosphere that once the weather cools down a bit, it seems like a great spot to bring your dog along. There's also plenty of parking, which makes driving there convenient — a nice bonus! It was a good place to stop for a coffee break while driving around the Gongdo area.

Chat Baker also has some special live jazz performances lined up.

On Saturday, September 26 at 6pm, THE HORN'Z will perform live. It's described as a brass live show blending smooth vocals with trumpet, saxophone, and trombone, so the atmosphere should be really great. Tickets are ₩17,000 and include one drink per person, with the show held on Chat Baker's second floor. You can also order brunch and pasta on the day of the show, so it sounds nice to enjoy coffee and a meal while listening to jazz up close.

On Sunday, September 27 at 6pm, there's also a performance planned: Part 1 with the Seok Ji-min Trio, and Part 2 with Roonil's Lounge. Jazz at a café on a weekend evening — it sounds like a totally different side of Chat Baker to experience.

Is Chat Baker worth a visit? Wrap-up

We stopped by casually this time with friends for coffee, and even picked up a snack for the kids. What stuck with me the most was the 13-meter water curtain. Watching the water fall coolly under the hot sun naturally made me feel more at ease. Sipping coffee, listening to the sound of the water, chatting with friends — the time flew by. If you're visiting with kids, bringing a snack like the chocolate cookie along with watching the water curtain would probably make them happy too.
