Draft beer costs 2,900 won for 300cc and soju is 3,900 won, and the order here was dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew), pepperoni corn cheese and pineapple sherbet, with the cold sherbet clearing the palate after the spicy broth and melted cheese. It's been a while since I sat down at a good-vibes pojangmacha (street-cart-style bar) for tasty snacks and a drink, so let me share this one. This time I went to Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Yeongdeungpo!

Drink prices near Yeongdeungpo Station: ₩2,900 draft beer, ₩3,900 soju

I went looking for somewhere to grab a light drink after dinner near Yeongdeungpo Station, and ended up at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Yeongdeungpo. The retro street-cart vibe was on full display — a great spot to drink comfortably with friends.

These days even soju and beer prices at bars can feel surprisingly steep, on top of the food. But here, draft beer (300cc) is ₩2,900 and soju is ₩3,900, which made the price much less of a burden. At prices like this in today's economy, I thought, "This is the kind of place you could come to for round one or round two!!!"

A retro pojangmacha atmosphere

Walking inside, instead of the sleek, polished bars you see everywhere these days, it has a cozier, more nostalgic pojangmacha feel.

The warm lighting and overall comfortable atmosphere make it a good place to talk with friends over drinks, and it's also a nice place to swing by for a casual drink after work. But of course, at a pojangmacha like this, the snacks are what really matter!

The three snacks we ordered that day

We ordered dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew), pepperoni corn cheese, and pineapple sherbet that day.

Dakbokkeumtang — a broth dish that goes perfectly with soju

When drinking at a pojangmacha, a broth-based dish is basically essential. Our dakbokkeumtang came out in a pot piled high, plenty for a group to share. Chicken and all kinds of ingredients simmered in a red broth, and there was something fun about letting it keep bubbling as we ate.

Being a broth dish, it paired especially well with soju. Pick up a piece of chicken, a shot of soju; take a spoonful of broth, another shot... that combo is a pojangmacha classic. Having a warm broth dish like this instead of just drinking with one plain snack made the whole table's mood so much better.

Pepperoni corn cheese — a great match for draft beer

And the dish I'd been quietly looking forward to that day — pepperoni corn cheese.

Melted cheese on the pepperoni corn cheese

Saying it again... it's the regular sweet, savory corn cheese with pepperoni added, so you get the salty pepperoni mixed in with the sweet, nutty cheese. Just the sight of all that melted cheese already screams drinking snack.

After something spicy and intense like the dakbokkeumtang, switching to corn cheese in between changed things up nicely. It's especially the kind of snack that goes well with beer, so it paired great with the draft beer we ordered that day.

Pineapple sherbet — the perfect palate cleanser

We ordered pineapple sherbet later in the night. After the hot, spicy dakbokkeumtang and the salty, savory corn cheese, something cool and refreshing at the end really hit the spot.

It came out shaped like an actual pineapple, which was cute, and eating it cold left my mouth feeling clean and refreshed! It'd suit anyone looking for a palate-cleanser while drinking.

Why the drink prices stood out most

We ordered both draft beer and soju that day. One of the things that personally stood out most at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Yeongdeungpo was the drink pricing!

  • Draft beer (300cc): ₩2,900
  • Soju: ₩3,900

These days, drinking near Yeongdeungpo Station can add up faster than you'd expect just from the drinks alone, but here the prices are relatively easy on the wallet, so it works well even if you order a bunch of snacks. The 300cc pours make it easy to order light, glass by glass, and soju fans can also breathe a little easier on the price. If you're looking for a good-value bar near Yeongdeungpo Station, this is a pretty big plus!

Why I'd recommend it as a bar near Yeongdeungpo Station

Overall, Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Yeongdeungpo is a great place to visit when you want good snacks and a drink in a comfortable, nostalgic pojangmacha atmosphere rather than a flashy, upscale bar.

With a solid range of menu options — from a hearty dish like dakbokkeumtang, to a beer snack like pepperoni corn cheese, to a good finisher like pineapple sherbet — it works well as a dinner-and-drinks first round, or as a casual second round near Yeongdeungpo Station. And especially these days, ₩2,900 for 300cc draft beer and ₩3,900 for soju really stuck with me.

If you're looking for somewhere near Yeongdeungpo Station to relax and chat over drinks with friends, or if you're into that retro pojangmacha atmosphere, it's worth a visit :) Overall the hygiene was good too.
