Cheonan Korean restaurant, perilla squid rice bowl lunch: Hyangtaek
In short
Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch is a Korean restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, a branch of the healthy home-style rice house that started at Gyodong Market in Daegu. A married couple shared mackerel gondre rice (14,000 won), perilla-leaf squid rice bowl (13,000 won) and Cheongsong-style chicken bulgogi (9,000 won), eaten with gopchang gim (thin roasted seaweed), seasoned salted seafood and the house sauce. With 2 hours of free parking in the Hyangtaek building and bar seats for solo diners, Hyangtaek serves the kind of home-cooked spread worth coming back for.

Where is Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch and what are its hours?
Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch is a healthy Korean restaurant on the 1st floor of 192 Buldang25-ro, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. It's open daily 11:00–20:00, with a break time from 15:30–17:00, and last order at 19:30.
🚘 2 hours of parking available in the Hyangtaek building
A branch of my favorite healthy Korean restaurant, Hyangtaek, has opened in Buldang-dong, Cheonan! 🍚 ~ ♥ Couldn't not go . . 😊

I've now been to the Daegu flagship store, the Dongdaegu Station branch, the Gyeongju branch, and now the Cheonan Buldang branch! My all-time favorite Korean food spot 🍚🖤🍚

Parking at Hyangtaek in Buldang-dong: 2 hours free
Parking is always a concern when visiting Buldang-dong, but Hyangtaek offers 2 hours of free parking in the building, so I could visit without any parking stress.

After parking and coming back out to the 1st floor, the sign and banner were big and easy to spot, so it was simple to find.

Inside Hyangtaek: tables for families, bar seats for solo diners
As soon as I walked in, the spacious interior and many tables made it seem like a great spot for families too.

What impressed me was that there were plenty of bar seats for solo dining, so it also seemed like a great place to grab a hearty meal alone at lunch or dinner.

🛖 There was a note on the wall saying Hyangtaek started at Gyodong Market in Daegu and has grown into what it is today. Having tried the Daegu flagship, Dongdaegu, Gyeongju, and now the Cheonan Buldang branch, this felt like a meaningful space, and it oddly moved me.

There were photos of new menu items posted on the wall, and disposable aprons were also available.

I couldn't decide between the eggplant rice bowl and the mackerel gondre rice, so I went with mackerel gondre and my husband picked the perilla-leaf squid bowl! We ordered mackerel gondre rice, perilla-leaf squid rice bowl, and Cheongsong-style chicken bulgogi.

Banchan at Hyangtaek and how to eat the rice bowls
As soon as we ordered, doenjang soup, the special sauce for the mackerel gondre rice, pickled gungchae, seasoned salted fish, and gim (roasted seaweed) arrived. The side dishes were prepared per the number of dishes ordered, which made everything so easy to eat — that's Hyangtaek for you!

All the dishes we ordered came out together, and the nutty aroma filling the air made me want to dig in right away!

Each table had a guide on how to eat Hyangtaek's food deliciously — mixing the rice well, wrapping it in gim, adding the salted fish, and drizzling on the special sauce made for a delicious meal.

Mackerel gondre rice, 14,000 won
✔️ Mackerel gondre rice — rice fragrant with gondre (dried thistle greens), combined with boneless mackerel, mushrooms, chopped scallions, and sesame seeds — is home-cooked comfort food itself •• 🍃🖤
The mackerel was meaty and clean in flavor, pairing so well with the gondre that even just the mackerel and rice alone was delicious.

Perilla-leaf squid rice bowl, 13,000 won
✔️ Perilla-leaf squid rice bowl — mixing the rice with the smoky, seasoned stir-fried squid over fragrant perilla leaves was so delicious! Even though it's a rice bowl mixed with seasoning, it wasn't overly salty or strong, so it seemed like something kids could enjoy too.

Cheongsong-style chicken bulgogi, 9,000 won
✔️ Cheongsong-style chicken bulgogi — deboned chicken, minced and seasoned, then grilled crispy — had a tender meat texture and a sweet seasoning that made it the perfect side dish for rice.

Piling the chicken bulgogi onto the gondre rice, nom nom! It was really so delicious •• ❤️ Wrapped in gim, it was clean and nutty and tasty too.

It felt like eating a warm home-cooked meal, and I finished it all in no time! The staff were all so kind too, which made the meal even better — I'd love to come back to Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch 🖤
