Medium gamjatang and king dumplings for two in Itaewon: Nuri Maeul

In short

Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch is a 24-hour pork bone stew restaurant on the second floor right in front of Itaewon Station Exit 4, in Yongsan, Seoul. Two diners ordered a Medium (3-person) gamjatang, a half-and-half plate of king dumplings and two bowls of rice through the table tablet, which is prepaid, and cleared the rich broth loaded with radish greens. With a wide hall, window seats and a self-serve side dish bar, Nuri Maeul Gamjatang makes a filling meal whether you come alone or with a group.

Today I want to introduce a 24-hour restaurant in Itaewon where you can get a really filling meal — "Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch"! It's a new-ish place that's slowly gaining word of mouth not just for its gamjatang (pork bone stew) but for its ppyeojjim (steamed pork bone dish) too.

The portions were generous and the taste was satisfying — this is a place where you can party hard in Itaewon on a Friday or Saturday night and then come back for hangover recovery soup. Here's my detailed review of this Itaewon gamjatang spot, so read on till the end!

Where is Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch, and when is it open?

Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building right in front of Itaewon Station Exit 4 — less than a minute's walk. It's open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Nuri Maeul Gamjatang's menu and tablet prepaid ordering

Each table has its own tablet, so ordering was easy, and it runs on a prepaid system. While this place is known as an Itaewon gamjatang / Itaewon ppyeojjim spot, they also sell various single-serving bone hangover soups you can enjoy for lunch.

We ordered the following:

  • Gamjatang (pork bone stew) Medium
  • King Mandu (dumplings) half-and-half
  • Zero Orange Fanta
  • 2 bowls of rice

One reason I recommend this as a Yongsan gamjatang restaurant — the place is genuinely huge. No worries eating solo, and zero worries bringing a big group either. Plus there's a window view that just opens up your chest!!!!

Since it's open 24 hours, you can drop by anytime — no waiting, no stressing about seats. That's a huge perk.

They bring you the first round of side dishes, but from the second refill on, you just help yourself at the self-serve bar, and it was really clean! Aprons and water are also self-serve.

Is a Medium (3-person) gamjatang enough for two? How it tasted

Table set with the Medium gamjatang

It was just the two of us, but we're big eaters, so... we ordered the Medium (3-person) gamjatang lol

Pot of Medium gamjatang before boiling

The second it arrived, I gasped at the visuals 💛

Full spread of Medium gamjatang and king mandu half-and-half

Full shot of everything we ordered. Now the only thing left is waiting impatiently for it to start bubbling!!!! With the king dumplings on the side too, it looked amazing. Already felt full just looking at it hahaha

Time to eat!!!!!!! Time to unleash my inner big eater.

The meat pieces were huge!!! I scooped potato and radish greens neatly onto my small plate and straight into my mouth~~

What matters most is the taste, right? Time for a very serious taste review.

Tender meat pulled off the bone

It was fully cooked through, so the meat was so tender it fell right off the bone!!!

It's delicious even plain, but I also dipped it into the tangy special sauce.

Putting the tender meat over white rice with radish greens on top was pure bliss. And also, there was zero gamey smell.

The fluffy potato ㅠㅠ that's a delicacy in itself. Spread the potato on your rice like butter, then top it with broth — a bowl of rice disappears in no time haha.

The broth's depth of flavor was just insane. Super rich. And unlike other places that skimp on the radish greens, here they give you generous portions of well-boiled greens — I really loved that. If you're looking for the best Itaewon gamjatang spot, it's this one, Nuri Maeul Gamjatang, I think haha.

King mandu half-and-half and the kimchi at Nuri Maeul Gamjatang

The glossy, shiny side dish — king mandu (dumplings) half-and-half!!! Would've felt incomplete without it 💛

Cross-section of a fully packed king mandu

Packed full inside. And they have kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) here too — personally I thought the kimchi was delicious!!!

Empty gamjatang pot scraped clean

We got so into it that before we knew it, we'd scraped the pot clean haha. Seriously so full!! Belly's about to burst!!!

Would I go back to Nuri Maeul Gamjatang in Itaewon?

If you're looking for a great gamjatang spot in Itaewon, try Nuri Maeul Gamjatang. Portions are generous, it's open 24 hours so you can go whenever's convenient, and the foreign staff were really kind too — we'd definitely go back.

It's really right in front of Itaewon Station Exit 4. Like, right there. As soon as you come out, it's right there — great spot to party hard in Itaewon on a Friday or Saturday night and then swing by for hangover recovery.
