What Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch is like at 10pm

I visited fairly late (around 10ish?), and even at that hour there were quite a lot of people eating. I guess it makes sense since they have hangover-cure menu items too,,

A spacious hall lined with table seating

Seating is all tables, and there are lots of them — the place is spacious, so it's totally fine for group visits.

Self-service bar with water, side dishes, and utensils

You can grab water or side dishes from the self-service bar, and if you need extra utensils like ladles, scissors, tongs, or small plates, you can pick those up there too.

Here's what's on the menu.

The mala gamjatang caught my eye the most, but I don't have that adventurous a spirit so I didn't try it — if any of you mala fanatics out there give it a shot, please report back to me.

There's also the bone stew (jjim) I came for today, and beyond that you can add extra bones, extra napa cabbage greens, or extra aged kimchi,

as well as add-in noodles like udon noodles, glass noodles, or ramen noodles.

Nuri Maeul Gamjatang is famous even from the name, right? Apparently it's thanks to the combination of a broth simmered over 6 hours, the spicy kick of their secret seasoning, and a savory flavor that spreads through your whole mouth.

So their main menu items are pork bone hangover soup — great both as a hangover cure and a filling meal — and gamjatang (potato pork bone stew), also a signature dish, where you can enjoy potatoes and meat in a deep, rich broth.

There are also seasonal menu items like water/spicy-mixed naengmyeon (cold noodles) or kongguksu (cold soy milk noodles), so even in a group there's no fighting over what to order!

You know the saying — the end of curing a hangover is the beginning of the next drink,,

Soy-braised bone stew with a potato noodle add-on and self-serve fried rice

I ordered with potato noodles and fried rice added on.

Potato noodle add-on (0.3), self-serve fried rice (0.3). Of all the noodle add-ons, I think potato noodles are the best. That chewiness is way too addictive.

A plate of chewy potato noodles

Honestly, I was torn between ordering gamjatang or the bone stew because I really wanted broth too — but turns out I didn't need to worry like that, because ordering the bone stew comes with broth anyway. It was so hot and delicious that I ate half of it before the main dish even arrived,,,

Meat boiled so soft you could eat it without teeth, chewy potato noodles, springy glass noodles, and even soft rice cake add-ins! Seriously, I'm not exaggerating, the portion was insane;; My boyfriend and I went together, and we're not exactly light eaters — but we both genuinely tapped out.

A late-night hangover cure in Itaewon, and easy for foreign visitors

Given the location, I'd recommend this not just for people who need a hangover cure after drinks, but for foreign visitors too. Actually, the foreigner sitting next to me was enjoying their pork bone hangover soup with real gusto. (Clearly knows good food.

Is Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch worth a late-night visit?

The meat on the bones was substantial, and it just fell off with a touch of the chopsticks — I ended up polishing off a whole bowl of rice at Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch. The broth was clean and spicy without any heaviness, perfect both for a filling meal and as a hangover cure.

If you're near Itaewon looking for a place to fill up late at night, or want a restaurant known for rich gamjatang broth and pork bone hangover soup, I recommend Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch.
