Cocktail bar in Mapo for Godfather and Adios drinks: Gipeun Sup
In short
Gipeun Sup is a cocktail bar in Mapo, Seoul, in the basement level of a building on Dokmak-ro near Hapjeong Station. A visit with a friend skipped the food and went straight to cocktails — Godfather, Gipeun Sup, and Adios — while the conversation with the owner drifted into stories about his pet lizard. It's a solid pick in Hapjeong for a night when you actually want to drink well-made cocktails.

I was looking for a place to grab drinks with a friend in Hapjeong and ended up at Gipeun Sup (깊은숲). The name alone gives off a certain mood, and once I actually visited, it turned out to have a wide variety of drinks and, most of all, cocktails that were made really, really well. A memorable spot.
Gipeun Sup's location and hours by day of the week
It's located at B1, 27 Dokmak-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It's a great spot if you're looking for a bar near Hapjeong — good for a casual drink with a friend or a date somewhere with a bit of atmosphere.
Hours are Sunday 17:00–24:00, closed Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesday 18:00 to 1:00 the next day, Thursday 18:00 to 1:00 the next day, and Friday and Saturday open until late. Closing times vary by day, so I'd recommend checking before you go.
How the cocktail menu is put together
Gipeun Sup had a pretty wide range of cocktails. Beyond the usual beer, there's draft beer and bottled beer, plus everything from signature cocktails to short drink cocktails, so you can pick according to your taste.

That night, instead of ordering food, my friend and I decided to focus purely on drinking, so we ordered mostly cocktails — and every single one was way tastier than expected, which made me really satisfied.

Godfather, Gipeun Sup, and Adios
What we ordered specifically were the Godfather, the Gipeun Sup, and the Adios. Trying them one by one, the flavors were clearly different, and there was real fun in picking and choosing between them. Personally, I thought the owner's skill was on another level. If you're someone who loves cocktails, this is worth a visit.

The lizard story we ended up talking about with the owner
What quietly stuck with me most about Gipeun Sup was the owner. At first he came across as a little gruff, but once he got talking, the whole vibe changed completely, haha. Turns out he's actually a really warm, funny guy. He's apparently a lizard dad, and he loves talking about his lizard so much that we ended up laughing and chatting along with him.

We started off wanting to quietly just drink, and somehow ended up deep in lizard talk with the owner, hahaha. These little unplanned conversations are the kind of thing that actually stays with you longer. Behind that gruff first impression is a genuinely fun person, and that's part of what makes Gipeun Sup charming.

When you want to drink cocktails in Hapjeong
Hapjeong has no shortage of bars, but finding one where you can drink cocktails properly isn't so easy. That's why I'd recommend Gipeun Sup to anyone looking for cocktails in Hapjeong. With draft beer, bottled beer, and a range of cocktails on offer, everyone in your group can pick their own drink. It also worked well for a night like ours, where the point was just to enjoy the drinking itself with a friend. We didn't try any food this time, but looking at the menu, the food looked like it'd be good too. Next time, I want to order food along with the drinks instead of just drinking.

Also good as a second stop for a date in Hapjeong
If you want a drink somewhere with atmosphere, this would also work well as part of a Hapjeong date course. It seems especially good as a second stop after dinner, sipping cocktails and talking, and being able to pick from such a variety of cocktails according to your taste is a plus. If you're looking for a different kind of bar in Hapjeong, want a genuinely good cocktail, or just want a relaxed, unpretentious drink, I'd recommend Gipeun Sup.

We only drank that night, but every single cocktail was so good that I left pretty satisfied — next time I'm going to properly order food too. Most of all, this is a place where I still remember the lizard story with the owner, haha. If you're looking for a bar in Hapjeong, give it a try!
