I stopped by Dento while looking for somewhere to have a light brunch around Bongsan-dong in Daegu! There are so many pretty cafés tucked into the Bongsan-dong alleys these days, so it’s fun just wandering around, too.

Bongsan-dong brunch with sandwiches

Dento felt less like a café just for coffee and more like a brunch café where you can enjoy sandwiches alongside it. What I was especially curious about was the five bite-size open sandwiches! Even the name sounded like it would be fun to choose and try them one by one, so I ordered them right away.

What I ordered

I had the five bite-size open sandwiches for ₩12,000 and an iced drip coffee for ₩4,000! At first, I wondered what a ₩12,000 sandwich would be like, but this was not just one sandwich—it was a plate of five different flavors, which made it fun to pick through. Dento’s bite-size open sandwiches are introduced as a set of five flavors.

What I liked about this menu was that, instead of eating one sandwich all the way through, every little open sandwich felt different. It really did feel like having a tiny course, just as the menu description suggests! They are open sandwiches with toppings on bread, so they looked pretty too, and it was fun deciding which of the five on the plate to start with.

I love trying a little of lots of different things, so this setup was completely my style. With only one kind of sandwich, I might get a little tired of it halfway through, but here, another sandwich was waiting after each one, so it stayed fun until the end. It would be nice to visit with a friend and try them one by one, asking, “What flavor is this?” The menu calls them “bite-size,” but they are introduced as being fairly substantial, so they feel closer to brunch than a quick snack.

Paired with iced drip coffee

I also ordered an iced drip coffee with the sandwiches. When I eat sandwiches, I prefer a clean-tasting coffee over a very sweet drink. Taking a sip of coffee here and there while eating the bite-size sandwiches was just right. The coffee refreshed my palate between sandwiches with all their different toppings, so it was a good pairing. At ₩4,000, it did not feel like a burden to add it to the sandwiches, either.

A memorable atmosphere with red accents

One thing that stood out when I looked up Dento was the atmosphere. The interior is introduced as having a vintage yet stylish feel, with red tables and chairs as focal points. So many cafés these days look similar with white-toned interiors, but Dento’s color accents made it more memorable. It looks nice for taking photos while having brunch and would be a good stop on a Bongsan-dong date, too.

For days when you want a little of many flavors

Personally, Dento felt like a brunch café for slowly enjoying coffee while experiencing several flavors in small portions, rather than somewhere to have just one sandwich. Especially if you’re like me and want this and that whenever you have to choose one menu item, haha, I’d recommend the five bite-size open sandwiches. All five arrive on one plate, so they are fun to eat one at a time, pretty to look at, and great for photos. If you want a light brunch in Bongsan-dong or are looking for brunch near Banwoldang, Dento could be worth a visit! Next time, I’d like to try another sandwich besides the bite-size ones :)
