Jeonpo-dong curry restaurant with melon soda toppings: Sarugak20

In short

Sarugak20 is a Japanese curry restaurant in a basement on Seojeon-ro 68beon-gil in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin, Busan, and the second branch of the former Moru Curry. At a weekend lunch, the writer and her husband each ordered the half-and-half curry (cream curry plus beef curry), added sausage and sweet potato cheese croquette toppings, and shared a melon soda. The cream curry was buttery and nutty while the beef curry carried a light heat, so the plate never felt heavy — and it brought back memories of her twenties.

My husband and I went back to Jeonpo-dong for the first time in a while! Every time I visit, there are new shops popping up, so it's always fun to explore — and this time I heard that Moru Curry had relocated, so we went for a Jeonpo lunch. That's how we ended up at Sarugak20!!

Is Sarugak20 the second branch of the former Moru Curry?

Honestly, the old name Moru Curry is still much more familiar to me than Sarugak20! (It's the second branch of Moru Curry!) I used to go there all the time in my 20s, then forgot about it for a while — but when it suddenly came to mind and I looked it up, it turned out it had relocated and was now running as a second branch!

Since it was a place I'd loved for so long, I felt strangely nostalgic, and curious too — would the curry still taste the same? So we went together this weekend, haha. My husband had never heard of Moru Curry, so I brought him along, haha.

What to order: two half-and-half curries plus toppings

We stopped by for a Jeonpo lunch on the weekend, and after going back and forth on the menu, we both ended up ordering the half-and-half curry!! Since one curry alone felt like not enough, we added sausage and sweet potato cheese croquette toppings too!

To cut to the conclusion — I highly recommend pairing the half-and-half curry with toppings!! We also ordered melon soda, which I hadn't had in a while, haha.

Cream curry vs beef curry: how the two halves taste

I tried the cream curry first, and it was still delicious ><. Rather than a heavy, rich cream taste, it had a subtle nutty flavor that went really well with the rice for our Jeonpo lunch!! I could taste the distinct curry aroma alongside that nuttiness, and personally I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Then the beef curry on the other side had a slight kick to it, so switching from the cream curry to the beef curry completely changed the feeling in my mouth, haha.

The slightly spicy beef curry side

One side nutty, the other slightly spicy. It was the same curry, but with two different flavor directions, so I never got tired of it even by the last bite. The toppings were sausage + sweet potato cheese croquette, plus the topping curry just can't go without!

Sausage with curry is a combo that's hard to mess up. Eating rice, curry, and sausage together added a salty note that made the curry taste even better.

What I was especially curious about was the sweet potato cheese croquette. Eating the crispy fried croquette together with the curry worked really well too. The sweet, soft taste of the sweet potato paired with the nuttiness of the cheese, and the crispy exterior made the texture fun as well.

It was especially good with the slightly spicy beef curry, where the sweet, nutty flavor of the croquette felt like it mellowed things out. On the other hand, eating it with the cream curry added even more nuttiness — a totally different feeling! Personally, I was glad we added the toppings.

Coming back to eat curry I used to love was more nostalgic than anything else, haha. Food with memories attached seems to bring back not just the taste but the whole feeling of that time?!!

Craving curry in Jeonpo-dong? Why Sarugak20 is worth it

If you're craving curry in Jeonpo-dong, the half-and-half curry I had on my return visit to Sarugak20 was a meal that brought back old memories while still tasting great. The cream curry had more of a buttery nuttiness than a creamy richness, and the beef curry had a light kick — I especially loved having both together in the half-and-half curry.

Adding the sausage and sweet potato cheese croquette on top let us enjoy a variety of flavors and textures alongside the curry, which was great. But more than anything, what I personally found most heartwarming was that Moru Curry, which I used to visit often in my 20s, lives on through Sarugak20.

Revisiting a place with old memories after so much time turned out to be a nicer feeling than I expected. If you're craving curry in Jeonpo-dong, or if you used to love Moru Curry like I did, it might be worth stopping by again after all this time. For me, it was a delicious bowl of curry and, at the same time, a weekend meal that let me briefly relive memories from my 20s. Even after all this time, curry is still delicious!!
