Weekend Korean BBQ near Hongdae Station Exit 1: ogyeopsal at Chopilsal
In short
Chopilsal Pork Grill Hongdae Branch is a pork belly and pork skin restaurant on Dongyo-ro, near Exit 1 of Hongdae Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekend outing with a child, the writer ordered 3 servings of salted ogyeopsal (thick-cut pork belly), 1 serving of jinjja dwitgogi (pork jowl and neck cuts) and double cheese steamed egg, served with myeongi namul (pickled mountain garlic leaves), pajeori (scallion salad), myeongnan-jeot (salted pollack roe) and mel-jeot (anchovy dipping sauce). The juicy ogyeopsal and the chewy, nutty dwitgogi at Chopilsal Pork Grill made the restaurant's popularity easy to understand.

I play a lot of Tekken and King of Fighters, so I know exactly how special the word "chopilsal" (super finishing move) sounds haha. And here it was, right in the restaurant's name: Chopilsal Pork Grill. Had to be good, right~!!

On a weekend trip to Hongdae with my kid, I figured good food comes first! So let me tell you about Chopilsal Pork Grill Hongdae Branch, a pork belly spot in Hongdae :)

The pink-pink sign really caught my eye at Chopilsal Pork Grill. "The original pork skin, the finest salted pork belly" — I was already excited just reading that haha. In Busan, apparently BTS visited this restaurant and the wait is a standard 3 hours, but being able to enjoy it near Hongdae felt like such a win haha. And it was so accessible, just a short walk from Hongdae Station Exit 1.

This is the original shop for honeycomb pork skin grilling!
Inside Chopilsal Pork Grill Hongdae: interior and seating
Inside, Chopilsal Pork Grill Hongdae Branch had a red-brick retro vibe combined with cozy wood tones. The chairs even had storage for jackets, which was really convenient.

The whole vibe already felt like it was about to unleash a finishing move, and there were reviews from past visitors along with a signature from comedian Kim Jun-hyun haha.
'Best' can always change someday, but 'original' is forever the only one.
They really seem to serve meat by this belief!
Chopilsal Pork Grill menu and the Naver review event
The menu at Chopilsal Pork Grill Hongdae Branch is led by the original pork skin — they developed and popularized honeycomb pork skin nationwide first, back in 2015 — alongside salted ogyeopsal (pork belly), real dwitgogi, and Choryang pork ribs. There was also a solid lineup of side dishes: kimchi jjigae, doenjang jjigae, mixed cold noodles, and double cheese steamed egg haha.

And there's a Naver review event too — a golden chance to try the original honeycomb pork skin and get a Hongpiri hair tie!!
Ordering 3 servings of salted ogyeopsal, 1 serving of jinjja dwitgogi and cheese steamed egg
After ordering, the side dishes arrived: myeongi namul (mountain herb), pajeori (scallion salad), pickles, aged kimchi, and even myeongnan-jeot (seasoned pollock roe) and mel-jeot (fermented anchovy)..! This is exactly why it's known as a pork belly hotspot near Hongdae Station

it's absolutely wild~!!
Soon after, the pork belly and dwitgogi arrived. First up, the pork belly. Salt and pepper were sprinkled on with a satisfying tsshh-tsshh, and it looked delicious just sitting there

Then it went on the grill carefully, and the smell was seriously... !
The steamed egg that came next was packed with cheese, adding cheesy richness and depth — it was so rich and deep that my kid ate a ton of it haha.

A generously spread table

How was the salted ogyeopsal at Chopilsal?
I took one bite of the pork belly and wow... it was seriously amazing. The texture and juiciness of the meat
were on a totally different level...! I got it right away why this place is so popular haha.

The taste of ogyeopsal enjoyed with a variety of sauces...!
Jinjja dwitgogi: the chewiest, nuttiest cut on the grill
And then the real dwitgogi! There's a story that butchers used to secretly keep this cut for themselves because it was too delicious

and I believe it. The distinctive chewiness and springiness were amazing, and the more you chewed, the more savory flavor came through — truly the ultimate in chewy, savory goodness.
