I went to Daonjeong in Wirye, and honestly I kept gasping the whole meal — it's been a while since I've eaten like this!!

⭐️Shabu-shabu + bossam + maesaengi pancake + kalguksu + porridge⭐️ every single one was delicious, so I'm officially calling this my dream shabu-shabu place 🤍

What the dining room at Daonjeong feels like

Daonjeong is on the 2nd floor of Woosung Tram Tower, and the space was more spacious and clean than I expected.

The spacing between tables was decent too, so it never felt crammed against the next table.

They also had a baby chair and a microwave, so it looked like a fine spot to visit with a baby too.
How to order and which broth to pick

Daonjeong is basically set up for orders of 2, and you can choose your broth too. There was a detailed ordering guide on the table, and the owner also explained it to us in person.

The shabu kalguksu set for two with hwangchil suyuk and maesaengi jeon
We ordered the braised pork + maesaengi pancake set and picked clear broth. I mean, clear broth is the fundamentals, right!! Besides clear, there was also clear spicy, perilla, and more, so it was nice being able to choose by preference.
🍲 How to cook the shabu-shabu for the best flavour

I read through the guide on the table while waiting, and after a bit the dishes started coming out one by one.
Kalguksu noodles, pork and roe-turmeric rice in one set

The first thing out was ⭐️kalguksu noodles + meat + roe-turmeric rice⭐️ — and honestly, this combo alone wasn't ordinary.

The kalguksu noodles in particular are house-made with Wando kelp mixed in, so my expectations shot up before I even took a bite!

And the rice wasn't just plain white rice either. It was roe-turmeric rice, topped with turmeric rice + water dropwort + salted pollock roe + sesame oil — I loved that a shabu-shabu place put this much thought into even the rice.
The meat quality was solid too. Just from this alone, isn't this a must-eat spot! Writing about it makes me want to eat it again ㅜㅜ
A generous platter of shabu-shabu vegetables and beef 🥬

And finally, the shabu-shabu arrives! You can choose between extra water dropwort or an assorted vegetable platter! I went with the assorted vegetables, and it was loaded with mushrooms, bean sprouts, water dropwort, fish cake, and more.
But most of all, the broth was exactly my taste. Clean and refreshing! It didn't taste heavily seasoned — you could really taste the ingredients, so I kept scooping more. And with plenty of water dropwort, the fragrant note was lovely too. I genuinely thought "ah, this place is legit..." while eating this shabu-shabu 😂 But it wasn't over yet...
The hwangchil suyuk (braised pork) arrives!!

While we were still eating shabu-shabu, the braised pork came out! It looked so glossy and delicious that I abandoned the shabu-shabu mid-bite!!

The owner told us how to eat it too — top the pork with garlic-sauce-tossed cabbage and eat it along with the peanut sauce. So I tried it exactly as instructed... and wait, what is this???

So good haha. I came for shabu-shabu and suddenly the pork was this good too — for a second I genuinely thought, "wait, am I at an omakase right now?" The pork was tender, and the crunch of the cabbage combined with the garlic sauce and peanut sauce made such a great combo.
Maesaengi jeon (fine seaweed pancake) 🌿

And then another full spread arrived. We were mid-bite on the braised pork, dazed, and this time a maesaengi pancake set came out. Seriously, the food just kept coming 😂

You mix assorted seaweed with chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) and soybean powder on top of the maesaengi pancake, then load it onto the pancake to eat —

and this was genuinely delicious too. You just mix everything together and that's it!! The sweet-and-tangy flavor + the maesaengi's distinct fragrance + the soft pancake worked so well together. Shabu-shabu → braised pork → maesaengi pancake, new dishes kept coming, so it was fun just eating.
🍜 House-made kalguksu noodles with Wando kelp

And after shabu-shabu, kalguksu is a must! Being house-made, the noodles were chewy with great texture. Since the noodles are made with kelp mixed in, there was a subtle kelp aroma too. Once the kalguksu went into the shabu-shabu broth, it finally felt like a proper meal was wrapping up 🤍
Finishing with porridge — pollack roe and turmeric rice

And finally, the porridge. You usually cook porridge after shabu-shabu, right? But at Daonjeong, even this wasn't just ordinary porridge. They use the roe-turmeric rice from earlier to make it, and with the umami of the roe plus the turmeric rice, it was incredibly good. Right up to the very last bite, I felt like "they really put thought into every single dish here."

My stomach was already full, but I still cleaned out the porridge bowl haha
Little touches at Daonjeong right up to the door

And once you're done eating, on your way out you can grab some ppeong튀gi (puffed rice snack) and a drink!! Thoughtful right to the end, huh? 😂 I went in just planning to eat shabu-shabu, but the shabu-shabu was good, the braised pork was good, the maesaengi pancake was good, the kalguksu was good, and even the porridge was good — so the one thing I said walking out was, "we're definitely coming back here."
⭐ Final verdict on Daonjeong Shabu Son Kalguksu
If you're looking for shabu-shabu in Wirye, I really want to recommend Daonjeong. It's not just about big portions — you could feel the care put into every single ingredient,
Variety + generosity + taste + value, all four in one place!
What I especially loved was that it wasn't just one dish and done — it flowed like a course, from shabu-shabu to braised pork, maesaengi pancake, kalguksu, and porridge. If you're planning to eat shabu-shabu in Wirye, give Daonjeong a try 🤍 I'm definitely going back!!!
