Busan shabu kalguksu: adding meat all at once overcooks it, Yunujae
In short
Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a shabu kalguksu (hot pot with knife-cut noodles) restaurant on the main road in Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. The white-broth shabu kalguksu is 11,000 won per person for two, plus 140g of sirloin for 8,000 won, and following the staff instruction to drop in all the meat and boil it for 5 minutes overcooked it, so adding only as much as you can eat at a time worked better. Between the house-made kalguksu noodles and the fried rice at the end, Yunujae still felt like good value in the 10,000-won range.

Today I wanted a warm, filling meal in Munhyeon-dong, Busan, so I visited Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu and figured I'd write up the review haha :ㅇ

Where Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is, and where to park
This Munhyeon-dong restaurant is about a 4-minute walk from Jigegol Station Exit 3, on the ground floor along the main road toward the Munhyeon-dong intersection, so it wasn't hard to find at all! For parking, using the building's basement level 1 lot gets you 2 hours of parking support haha.

The noodle-making room by the entrance and the dining room
As soon as you walk in, there's a noodle-making room set up right by the entrance! Since you can actually see the space where they make the noodles by hand, it got me excited about how good the kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) was going to be haha.

The overall interior was clean and tidy! It's mainly white-toned with wood accents added,

so it wasn't too stiff, and the tables had fairly generous spacing, which made it look comfortable for family meals too haha.

Self-serve broth and kimchi corner, and how to order
There's a self-serve corner off to one side! It has extra broth and kimchi ready for when you're eating shabu-shabu, so you can just grab more whenever you run low — really convenient! They said the kimchi is made fresh every day with domestic napa cabbage!

You order using the tablet at the table, and there's a guide off to the side on how to eat it for the best results — handy to check!

There's also a dipping sauce for the shabu meat at every table!

What comes with the 11,000-won white-broth shabu kalguksu for two
Shabu kalguksu - white broth, 11,000 won × 2 people
- 70g sirloin
- Vegetables & mushrooms
- House-made kalguksu noodles
- Fried rice
- Sirloin add-on 140g for 8,000 won

Boiling the sirloin for 5 minutes: add it in batches instead
The instructions said to add all the meat before the broth boils and cook it for 5 minutes!

But once I put all the meat in and boiled it, the meat ended up way overcooked,
so I think it would've been better to add just as much as we could eat, then add more, and repeat that way... haha.

With the extra sirloin we ordered added in, the amount of meat was plenty!

How were the house-made kalguksu noodles?
Personally, what stood out to me here was the house-made kalguksu noodles! Compared to typical kalguksu noodles, they're a bit thicker, and instead of getting mushy the longer they boil, they somehow got chewier — haha. I should've ordered extra noodles instead of extra meat!
And the finishing touch to shabu kalguksu is the fried rice!

The fried rice finish: does it taste like gamjatang fried rice?
Since it's cooked in the broth left over from the shabu-shabu, the savory depth of the broth naturally soaks into the rice, and eating it with the house-made kimchi made it even better. It kind of tastes like gamjatang (pork bone soup) fried rice lol.
Is Yunujae worth it for lunch in Munhyeon-dong, Busan?
Overall, with shabu-shabu, house-made kalguksu noodles, and fried rice all for 11,000 won per person, the value is great, and with the clean interior plus 2 hours of parking support, I'd recommend this as a Munhyeon-dong restaurant and a Munhyeon-dong lunch spot haha.
