White-broth shabu kalguksu with group seating, baby chairs: Munhyeon

In short

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a self-noodle shabu kalguksu restaurant on the first floor of Daerim Munhyeon City Plaza in Nam-gu, Busan. The writer ordered the white-broth shabu kalguksu, ate the mushrooms, minari, and meat first, then finished with the house-made kalguksu noodles, and found the group seating and baby chairs made it easy for a family meal out. The portions were generous for the price, making it a solid pick for a hearty meal in Busan.

If you're looking for a good kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) spot in Busan, or somewhere filling to eat in Munhyeon-dong, this place is worth knowing about. This time I visited Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu, which has built a word-of-mouth reputation as a Munhyeon-dong go-to.

I went looking for somewhere to eat in Munhyeon-dong and the portions were bigger than I expected — plus you get to finish with house-made kalguksu noodles, which made it a pretty satisfying meal.

What I liked most was being able to enjoy shabu-shabu and kalguksu in one sitting :)

Location and the noodle-making space at Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu sits on the first floor of Daerim Munhyeon City Plaza right on the main road, so it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit.

The first thing I noticed walking in was a dedicated noodle-making space. Seeing them roll out the kalguksu noodles by hand naturally raised my expectations for the food.

Group seating and baby chairs — how convenient is the space?

The interior was bigger than I expected too. Beyond the regular tables, there's a space for groups, so it looked like a good option for family outings or visits with several people.

Baby chairs are available as well, which should be handy for anyone looking for a place to eat with kids.

The address is 26 Suyeong-ro, Nam-gu, Busan, Daerim Munhyeon City Plaza units 158–161, South Korea, and since it's open daily, it's fairly easy to fit into your schedule.

White-broth shabu kalguksu — how big are the portions?

We ordered the white-broth shabu kalguksu.

Shabu vegetables piled high with mushrooms and minari

The first thing that struck me when the food arrived was the portion size. The mushrooms, minari (water dropwort), and meat came piled high — I was surprised once by the price, and surprised again by how much actually showed up, haha.

There was plenty of minari and mushroom especially, and once they wilted down in the broth, they got even easier to eat. Cooking the meat in the same broth kept it light while naturally adding its flavor to the soup.

The order of eating: finishing with house-made kalguksu noodles

It's not just shabu-shabu and done — the fact that you finish with house-made kalguksu noodles was a real plus.

Adding the kalguksu noodles to the broth

Personally, I liked being able to enjoy both dishes in sequence within one order rather than ordering shabu-shabu and kalguksu separately. You eat the vegetables and meat first, and once the broth has developed some depth, you add the noodles — and even though it's the same broth, it tastes different by that point.

On top of that, there are add-ons like extra sirloin or a mushroom-minari platter depending on your taste, so it seemed easy to order according to your group size or appetite.

If you want to eat kalguksu and shabu-shabu together in Munhyeon-dong, it's worth a visit.

Three things I look for when picking a place to eat in Munhyeon-dong

When I'm looking for a good spot in Munhyeon-dong, I have a few standards I care about. First, the portion size. Second, the menu variety. Third, how convenient the space is to use.

A table mid-meal with shabu kalguksu
A bowl with meat and vegetables together

This place checked all three boxes comfortably. Plenty of vegetables and meat, house-made kalguksu to finish with, and a spacious interior that's good for group visits.

Side dishes served alongside the shabu kalguksu

I also heard the seafood pajeon (savory pancake) is a popular order, so I'm planning to try it next time. The shabu kalguksu alone was plenty filling, but if you're visiting with a group, adding a side dish to share would be a nice touch.

Finishing up a filling bowl of shabu kalguksu

If you're looking for somewhere to eat in Munhyeon-dong and prefer a hearty meal, this should suit you well. Rather than just a light bowl of kalguksu, being able to work through meat, vegetables, and noodles in sequence made the meal feel a little more leisurely ^^

Overall, the portions were good for the price, and being able to enjoy the house-made kalguksu alongside the shabu-shabu was the part that stuck with me.

If you're looking for a place for a family meal or dinner with friends in Munhyeon-dong, Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is worth adding to the list.

Next time I'm planning to try the seafood pajeon too — if you've been, I'd love to know which you liked better, the shabu kalguksu or the pajeon!
