Looking for somewhere to have a relaxed drink with a pojangmacha (street tent bar) feel on Dongseong-ro in Daegu, I ended up here — a Daegu Dongseong-ro spot called Room Pojangmacha.

Room Pojangmacha is a pocha on Dongseong-ro 4-gil with 50 side dishes on the menu and a buy-one-get-one deal running on them. There was no way I wasn't going in haha. I also liked that you can eat a full meal here!

The whole place has that genuinely friendly street-tent-bar atmosphere, so it was easy to walk in without any pressure ~

It felt like a good spot for a group to order a bunch of things and drink together, so it seemed great for meeting up with friends, and also for a retro-style date haha.

What is the atmosphere like at Room Pojangmacha?

A genuine pojangmacha feel that put me at ease

From the moment I walked in, it felt much more like Room Pojangmacha — somewhere to have a relaxed drink — than a polished, formal bar haha.

It works fine as a first-round spot to eat and drink with friends, and it also suits a low-key second round with a few side dishes and conversation.

I personally love this kind of relaxed atmosphere, so when I'm looking for a bar in Daegu's Dongseong-ro, vibe matters a lot to me — and this place definitely has that friendly feel ><

With such a wide menu, we agonized over what to order and ended up going with beef brisket jjamppong tang, yukhoe fire chicken cold noodles, and an X-bomb.

The basic side dish at this Daegu Dongseong-ro bar — bar snacks and water! Haha.

Everything we ordered came out at once, which made me so happy ><haha.

The beef brisket jjamppong tang came out first, and the portion was pretty generous — already satisfied haha!

There were mussels in the broth, plus plenty of brisket and cabbage, so it worked great as a drinking snack. The cabbage in particular added a subtle sweetness when eaten with the broth, and the brisket gave the broth a meaty depth!

With the mussels in there too, it had that distinct seafood note you get from jjamppong, and overall there were so many ingredients packed into the broth that it was great for eating slowly while drinking haha. When I order this kind of soup, I prefer it loaded with ingredients rather than just a lot of broth, and this one delivered — a big portion generously filled with mussels, brisket, and cabbage. Satisfied!

How spicy are the hot yukhoe fire chicken cold noodles?

Just from the name, the hot yukhoe fire chicken cold noodles sounded like it'd be pretty spicy, but it turned out to be less intense than expected — what a relief haha. I braced myself for something aggressively spicy because of the 'fire chicken' name, but it landed around the level of Shin Ramyun — nicely spicy but not overwhelming!

Plus, since the noodles themselves are cold, the spiciness doesn't hit as hard right away?!! So I think even people who aren't great with spicy food could handle this more comfortably than expected haha.

What I liked most was how generous the yukhoe portion was! It wasn't just a lot of noodles — there was plenty of yukhoe on top too, and eating it together with the noodles was such a good combo +_+

The cold noodles mixed with the spicy sauce, and biting into the yukhoe alongside it gave a totally different experience from just eating spicy cold noodles alone ~! Personally, out of the three dishes, this one stuck with me the most!!

The X-bomb tastes more like a cocktail-style drink

The X-bomb we ordered alongside was a bit different from what I expected from a drink — it didn't really taste like alcohol, more like a cocktail-style beverage haha. So it was pretty easy to drink without the pressure of feeling like you're 'drinking'!

It paired well with warm, hearty side dishes like the beef brisket jjamppong tang, and it was also good for setting a mood alongside the spicy yukhoe fire noodles — recommended! I think it'll suit people who prefer something smooth to drink more than those who like a strong, boozy taste haha.
