Nokyang-dong solo gukbap lunch with a pyeonyuk set: Yetnal Gyeongseong

I had to drop my car off at a repair shop nearby on a weekday, and while I was searching for somewhere to grab lunch while waiting, I found this place. It's the newly opened Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Nokyang Branch, and there's quite a lot of parking space right in front of the restaurant, so it was convenient to visit by car too.

True to being a newly opened restaurant, the whole place felt clean overall, and most of all, having generous parking space out front made it convenient since I came by car.

What is a weekday lunch alone like at Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk?

I visited on a weekday for lunch, and eating alone wasn't awkward at all — since sundaeguk is a gukbap (soup with rice) dish, it was a great way to leave with a full, satisfying meal.

They say Gyeongseong Sundaeguk's story began 60 years ago in the sundae alley of Yongin's Jungang Market, and you can really taste that deep, clean flavor of authentic sundaeguk. It was great to get a hearty meal in while my car was being fixed :) I think this menu is also perfect for solo diners who work in offices nearby!

What should you order at Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk?

If you want to eat heartily, I recommend the pyeonyuk (boiled sliced pork) and chapssal sundae (glutinous rice blood sausage) set — that's what I got! If you like it spicy and fiery, I highly recommend the spicy gukbap :)

There's sesame seeds on the table, and if you grind them with the little pestle and add them to your sundaeguk, it's seriously nutty and delicious!!! You have to try eating it this way~~~

The pyeonyuk chapssal sundae set, upsized and swapped to pork gukbap

What I ordered was the pyeonyuk chapssal sundae set! I upsized the gukbap from the original set menu, and instead of sundaeguk, I ordered pork bone soup. I usually like plenty of broth and meat when eating gukbap, so I upsized it, and the portion was definitely hearty. Since it's a set, pyeonyuk and chapssal sundae come together, so I liked that I could try a variety of things rather than just eating one bowl of soup.

And when I visited, the grand-opening event was also running. So I got a free chapssal sundae! It would be great as a light side dish with drinks too, and it had none of that distinct off-smell chapssal sundae can sometimes have, so I enjoyed it a lot.

The side dishes were simply kimchi and seokbakji (diced radish kimchi), but the kimchi was seriously amazing — eating it with the gukbap was pure bliss~

Even though it's a set menu, the basic portion was generous and plentiful.

How does the pork gukbap broth taste?

The pork bone soup I ordered had a milky white broth loaded with pork, making it a filling meal. Especially since I ordered the size-up option from the set menu, the generous portion meant anyone who loves gukbap would be satisfied. The broth wasn't overwhelmingly intense and had a clean taste that was great for mixing with rice, and the pork paired well with the broth's mild flavor. Since it comes seasoned already, all you need is a bit of sesame and perilla seed powder to finish~

Eating the pyeonyuk and chapssal sundae together made the menu composition quite substantial. The atmosphere was easy for solo dining too, so I had a comfortable meal. Since it's newly opened, I also liked the clean atmosphere.

A bite of kimchi right with rice is pure bliss.

The self-serve bar and the sesame–perilla powder combo

You can simply grab more side dishes from the self-serve bar, and the self-bar was seriously spotless — it made me feel good!

I really recommend the sesame plus perilla seed powder combo — it's the ultimate in nuttiness.

Is Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk worth a solo meal in Uijeongbu?

The newly opened Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Nokyang Branch was a good place to drop by when you're craving a hearty bowl of gukbap. In particular, the generous parking space out front made it convenient to visit by car, and with the set menu plus the grand-opening event, I left having eaten quite well. If you're looking for a warm, filling meal in Nokyang-dong, give it a try :) Next time I'd like to visit with my kid and husband :)
