Pangyo pork BBQ with extra king oyster mushrooms: Dwaeji Mansion

In short

Dwaeji Mansion Pangyo Avenue France Branch is a pork belly and pork neck BBQ restaurant on the first floor of Avenue France by Pangyo Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. One serving of pork belly and one of "life pork neck" came with two extra king oyster mushrooms (4,000 won) and kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), and staff grilled everything — mushrooms included, so the juices stayed in — while explaining the order to eat in: salt first, then wasabi, then herring roe. Dwaeji Mansion is wide and spotless enough to suggest for group dinners and family meals, and the writer would return 100%.

It's been a while since I had a proper pork belly meal near Pangyo Station, from your weekend traveler.

Dwaeji Mansion Pangyo Avenue France Branch is open Monday to Wednesday 11:30–22:30 (break time 14:30–17:00, last order 22:00), and on Sundays 11:30–22:00 (break time 14:30–16:30, last order 21:30). It's located on the first floor of Pangyo Avenue France.

This was the cleanest Pangyo pork BBQ restaurant I've been to, so let me write it up in detail :)

Inside Dwaeji Mansion: tables for four that suit group dinners

Dwaeji Mansion was the cleanest pork BBQ restaurant I've ever been to in my life. The place is quite spacious too, and most tables are for four, so it looked great for group dinners.

It also seemed fine for families. There were several baby chairs ready at the entrance, and while I was eating, a family with kids around 5–8 years old came in — right at the table next to mine!

What we ordered: pork belly, life pork neck, two king oyster mushrooms, kimchi jjigae

I had one serving of pork belly, one serving of life pork neck, two extra king oyster mushrooms (₩4,000), and one kimchi jjigae. Honestly I wanted to try the grilled Imsil cheese but it felt like it might not be great value for money, so I skipped it...! I also wanted to try the herring roe bibimbap since it's not something you can find just anywhere, and I still kind of regret not getting it...

Staff grill the pork and the king oyster mushrooms for you

I was a bit surprised — Dwaeji Mansion grilled things more delicately than any other pork BBQ place I've been to! (I actually wondered if it was omakase..?) The staff moved so professionally and precisely that I found myself just watching them! Grilling the meat itself was one thing, but the way they grilled the mushrooms really stood out. They poured a little oil, lightly cooked just the outside, and kept the inside slightly underdone so the mushroom's juices wouldn't escape.

Usually when you're grilling meat, mushrooms and garlic get neglected and easily burn, but at Dwaeji Mansion that never happened — I loved that!

I couldn't believe they were this meticulous even with mushrooms...! And forget the mushrooms — when they grilled the meat, I was practically drooling..!

How to eat it: salt, then wasabi and ginger, then herring roe with minari

Both the pork belly and the life pork neck were really delicious. It couldn't have been otherwise, since they guide you through an order so that every single bite counts and nothing goes to waste! The first bite is grilled meat with roasted salt, the second is with wasabi and ginger,

and the third is with herring roe and minari (water dropwort), followed by lightly grilled vegetables dipped in the special sauce. Pork BBQ restaurants these days really do seem to put a lot of care into their dipping sauces. Thanks to that, I ate a lot without ever getting bored, and got to enjoy the pork in so many different ways. If you're someone who gets tired of pork easily, Dwaeji Mansion might change your mind.

Personally, I'd most recommend eating it with herring roe and minari!!

Why the kimchi jjigae arrives late, timed to the mushrooms

To finish, we had kimchi jjigae (₩10,000, rice included) with rice. The kimchi jjigae came out a little late — I think it was because we'd ordered extra king oyster mushrooms and were still grilling and eating them, so they paced the jjigae to match our mushroom-eating speed.

Dwaeji Mansion's kimchi jjigae served with rice

Since the kimchi jjigae came with a bowl of rice, we set the jjigae aside for a moment and mixed the herring roe into the rice, eating it very thoroughly.

The little pops of roe between your teeth made for a really fun texture!

The kimchi jjigae also had quite a lot of meat in it — enough that you could really call it a meat stew. There was less tofu, but that just meant more meat instead.

Is Dwaeji Mansion worth it for a Pangyo group dinner or family meal?

What satisfied me most at Dwaeji Mansion was the service. I've never seen a pork BBQ restaurant grill the meat for you like this. The meticulous grilling was the best part, and the meat itself was satisfying too. It's clean and spacious, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a place for a group dinner or family meal in Pangyo. I'd definitely go back! :)
