I visited a brunch café in Paju so overwhelming in scale that it was hard to believe a place this big existed there.

This is Barirus, in Paju-eup. That day we ordered the salmon avocado brunch and an Americano, then slowly wandered around the café.
Barirus hours and parking: room for over 300 cars
Barirus is open Monday to Thursday 10:00–21:00 and Friday to Sunday 10:00–02:00, and it has its own dedicated parking. The lot is split into three sections, and combined they hold over 300 cars, so even on a weekend visit, parking wasn't a hassle at all.

On top of that, there are 4 EV charging stations too.
How big is Barirus inside?
At the café entrance there's a media photo zone shaped like a sunset.

Past the photo zone and into the building, the high ceilings made the space feel even bigger than its actual size.

The interior is split across 1st and 2nd floors. The 1st floor has sofa seating and generously sized tables scattered throughout, making it comfortable for family visits as well as larger group gatherings.

There are photo-worthy spots all over, plus large plant installations and various greenery placed throughout the space, giving it an open, airy feel even indoors.

Heading up to the 2nd floor reveals a completely different interior from the 1st. It's done in an industrial style, giving off a more polished, distinctive atmosphere.

Outside the café there's also a lawn terrace of about 400 pyeong (roughly 1,320 square meters), a great space for kids to play catch or football, and there were plenty of families visiting with children.

There's also separate camping-style seating. With open views all around, it looked like a great spot to enjoy a coffee while watching the sunset in the evening.
Salmon avocado brunch at Barirus: look and portion size
What we ordered was the salmon avocado brunch. It came piled high with fresh salmon and avocado, filling enough on its own to leave us satisfied. Beyond that, there's quite a variety of lunch and dining menus, like American brunch, house-made jambon & ciabatta brunch, and steak salad.

The Americano we ordered alongside is brewed from beans roasted in-house at Barirus, with a strong aroma and a heavier flavor rather than acidity. They said the decaf beans are also roasted separately as a premium blend to preserve the flavor.

Among the signature menu items, the sweet Bari Schüpfer, the strawberry latte with real strawberry texture, and the newly launched Pista Berry are said to be popular. They also have a colorful drink lineup including peach ade with a whole peach sorbet, tropical guava, yuzu, and grapefruit ade.
The same-day bakery counter at Barirus
Barirus is a brunch café but also a handmade bakery café at the same time. The croissant made with AOP butter is the signature item, and since even the cream is made in-house, the freshness really shows.

On top of that, there was a huge variety to pick from — garlic naan bread, red plum blossom bread, castella cream bread, strawberry meringue cheese cream bread, red bean bread, and green onion salt bread.

There was a wide range of bakery items too, including a house-made Basque cheesecake and slice cakes, plus scones and palmier cookies, and apparently they even make their own gelato.
What to know before a late-night visit to Barirus in Paju
One of the things that makes Barirus special is its operating hours. From Monday to Thursday it's open until 9pm, but on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays it stays open until 2am. Just keep in mind that the kitchen's last order is 8pm.

With such a large space and a wide range of brunch and bakery menus, it was a great place to handle a meal and coffee at the café in one go. It works well tied into a trip to Paju Premium Outlets or Imjingak, or it's honestly worth making the destination all on its own.

Next time I'd like to sit out on the lawn terrace and try one of the signature drinks while watching the sunset.
