Four plates and a Budweiser at a Gijang outlet restaurant: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Restaurant is a Western-style family restaurant on the first floor of the NORTH building at Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. Arriving right at opening time on a weekend meant no wait at all, and the table filled up with kung pao chicken pilaf at 22,000 won, seafood tomato pasta at 19,000 won, truffle mushroom cream gnocchi and pastry soup, plus a Budweiser. For a calm meal in the middle of a shopping trip, going at opening was the surest way to skip the line at Bueokgan.

Why we picked Bueokgan for a Western meal inside Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang

While everyone else heads to the Dongbusan outlet, I go to the Shinsegae outlet!!!! I visited on a weekend to shop and eat something good. There are quite a few restaurants inside the premium outlet, but this time I wanted somewhere with a nice atmosphere to eat leisurely, so I decided on Bueokgan Restaurant in Gijang!

Street outside the NORTH building of Busan Premium Outlets

I was walking toward Bueokgan Restaurant, located on the 1st floor of the right side of the NORTH building at the Busan Gijang Premium Outlets. This street had this foreign-street kind of vibe, so just walking around put me in a good mood! I came to shop but it felt like a little trip too haha.

How to find Bueokgan inside the outlet

There's a UGG store all the way at the far right end, and if you walk just a bit further you'll see Bueokgan. As I was walking around browsing the outlet, the store suddenly appeared and I walked right in.

Entrance of Bueokgan Restaurant

Bueokgan was bigger than I expected. The interior had an overall antique-style feel, and compared to a typical outlet restaurant it felt more like a family restaurant where you could eat in a calmer setting.

Weekend waits at Bueokgan, and why opening time has none

They say Bueokgan is a popular spot with an unavoidable wait on weekends, but I liked that there's a separate waiting zone set apart from the seating area.

Bueokgan's separate waiting zone

I went right at opening time and there was no wait at all. If you're visiting on the weekend, I'd recommend moving a bit early like I did haha!

Table in Bueokgan's dining hall seated without a wait

The tableware was neatly set up at every table.

What we ordered at Bueokgan and what it cost

  • Pastry soup ₩10,000
  • Seafood tomato pasta ₩19,000
  • Truffle mushroom cream gnocchi ₩22,000
  • Kung pao chicken pilaf ₩22,000
A bottle of Budweiser ordered

We also ordered a bottle of Budweiser. Sipping it cold while slowly waiting for the food, it felt great to have this kind of leisure on a weekend lunch.

A bowl of pink house-made pickles

The house-made pickles had a nice crunchy texture, and they must have added beets because the pink color looked really pretty too.

Kung pao chicken pilaf topped with a giant chicken leg

Kung pao chicken pilaf, 22,000 won: one whole chicken leg

The kung pao chicken pilaf is ₩22,000. The look of that chicken leg alone is amazing right?????!! There's a giant chicken leg sitting right on top of the rice, and honestly the visual just cracked me up lol. I was expecting an ordinary shredded-chicken pilaf, so I was a little surprised.

Close-up of glossy pilaf and chicken leg

The pilaf had a nice glossy sheen and the chicken leg looked moist just by looking at it!

Cut sous-vide chicken leg inside

When I cut into the chicken leg, the center looked slightly pink from sous vide cooking, but it was well cooked. The meat was moist and tender, easy to eat.

Chicken coated in kung pao sauce with pilaf

It's an American-Chinese style kung pao sauce, so it had a slightly salty, spicy charm. Thanks to that hint of spice, it was a dish I kept reaching back for.

A plate of seafood tomato pasta

Seafood tomato pasta, 19,000 won: seafood in every bite

The seafood tomato pasta is ₩19,000. Just looking at it, the seafood tomato pasta came out loaded with seafood.

Tomato pasta with mussels, shrimp, and clams

There was a good variety of seafood — mussels, shrimp, clams — and there was so much that you could basically get one piece of seafood per noodle strand. It's a slightly spicy style but not too spicy, so it seemed fine to eat even with a kid. Is this actually a pasta spot worth going to in Gijang?

Truffle mushroom cream gnocchi with thick sauce

Truffle mushroom cream gnocchi, 22,000 won: made for mushroom lovers

The truffle mushroom cream gnocchi is ₩22,000. Even in the photo you can tell the sauce is nice and thick! With that rich mushroom aroma coming through, just looking at it you could already expect a savory, deep flavor.

Close-up of gnocchi piled with mushrooms

Even before eating, the truffle and mushroom scent kept rising up, and if you're a mushroom lover you would genuinely love this dish (myself being a mushroom lover ♡~~~~)

Mushrooms coated in cream sauce

Mushrooms thickly coated in that sauce — there's no way they could taste bad!!! It really couldn't taste bad. It was a dish where you could properly taste the mushroom flavor.

Chewy gnocchi coated in sauce

The gnocchi was chewy and delicious too. That chewiness went really well with the thick sauce. Since the sauce is rich, I'd recommend making sure to coat the gnocchi well before eating.

Sweet pumpkin soup topped with pastry

Pastry soup, 10,000 won: pastry dipped in sweet pumpkin soup

Last up was the pastry soup!!! It's ₩10,000, and I'd only ever had it at a buffet before — this was my first time ordering it as an actual menu item lol. I dunked the crispy pastry into the soup and, wow... it was on a completely different level from the buffet version lol. From the soup to the pastry, everything tasted premium.

Dipping pastry into the pumpkin soup

The sweet pumpkin soup itself already had a sweet, savory flavor, and adding the butter-loaded pastry on top made it really delicious...! It made me want to try a cream version too — but Bueokgan didn't have a cream soup option, sadly.

What kind of day is Bueokgan best for?

Bueokgan Restaurant is inside the Busan Premium Outlets, so it felt like a Gijang family restaurant that's great for a meal in the middle of shopping. It's easy to drop into casually like a Gijang brunch café, and with its comfortable atmosphere it seemed fine for a wide range of ages to come together. Honestly, there were so many people there with kids. Since there's a wait on weekend lunches, I'd suggest aiming for opening time like I did. If you want to shop and eat somewhere with a nice atmosphere, I recommend Bueokgan Restaurant as a Western food spot in Gijang!
