Songtan café: fig financiers and iced americano pairing at Cafe Pomun

In short

Cafe Pomun is a standalone dessert café in Icheung-dong (Songtan), Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, with seating across the main building's two floors and a furniture-showroom annex next door. Arriving full after a meal, the writer still ordered fig and sweet potato financiers, a chestnut matcha chocolate cake, an iced americano and an iced latte. The crisp-outside, moist-inside financiers with the clean iced americano were the best pairing, and Cafe Pomun is worth remembering for dessert gifts too.

Pyeongtaek dessert café, Songtan dessert café, Icheung-dong go-to spot. I was out and about in Pyeongtaek and stopped by Cafe Pomun for a Songtan dessert fix! It's a standalone building, the café itself is gorgeous, and it's known as a dessert spot so I was already in a good mood haha!! I tried the financiers and the cake, and both were incredibly good.

Cafe Pomun's building and the large parking lot behind it

Icheung-dong's go-to café, Pomun, has a huge parking lot out back so it'd work great as a meetup spot too! The coffee's good and they said they've been making desserts here for 10 years, which made me even more excited about Cafe Pomun.

Main building 1F, 2F or the annex: where to sit at Cafe Pomun

Pretty interior, nice dishware, and even a terrace~ In the main building you order on the 1st floor, there was plenty of seating on the 2nd floor too, and lots of seats in the annex's 1st floor as well. On the weekend the main building's 2nd floor was fully booked so we got seated in the annex.

Exterior view showing the landscaping around Cafe Pomun

Such pretty landscaping at this Pyeongtaek dessert café! Honestly I came right after a meal and was already full, but the second I saw the desserts my eyes went wide haha. All my favorite desserts were gathered in one place...

Bar table seating on the 1st floor of Cafe Pomun

Cafe Pomun has bar-table seats on the 1st floor, but it gets crowded with customers ordering, so most people seem to head to the annex or the 2nd floor. Still, the 1st floor has great vibes too, so I'd recommend it if you're coming alone or with one other person!

Dessert showcase display at Cafe Pomun

Cafe Pomun's pastry showcase and what we ordered

The baked goods and desserts were lined up in the showcase and looked incredibly tempting ㅠ_ㅠ Especially since this place is famous for its financiers, I really wanted to try one.

Financiers and baked goods arranged in the showcase

This Songtan dessert spot had a cake with all three of my favorite things in it. Chestnut, matcha, chocolate.... That combo of three isn't easy to find, so I ordered it the moment I saw it haha. And I picked an iced americano, an iced latte, a fig financier, and a sweet potato financier. My husband said he wanted a lemon madeleine too, but I didn't hear him and forgot to order it.... Sorry, I'll get you one next time haha.

Spacious seating area on the 2nd floor of Cafe Pomun's main building

Up the stairs there's a spacious area on the 2nd floor, and maybe because this is such a well-known Songtan dessert spot, quite a few people were enjoying dessert alone. That day it was full, so we moved to the annex! There, they bring the order to your table after you order at the counter.

The furniture-showroom annex: is Cafe Pomun okay with a baby?

Cafe Pomun's annex is in the building right next door! It's run like a furniture showroom, so you can look at the furniture in person and even buy it~ The owner was super kind too, which I loved about Cafe Pomun. There weren't many people in the annex, so it was nice for enjoying things quietly.

That said, Cafe Pomun doesn't have a baby chair, so visiting with a baby might be a bit tough — though I did see one guest bring their own portable baby chair, and the annex seemed fine for bringing in a stroller. There is a step at the entrance though!!

QR code on the annex table for furniture information

I thought the furniture was pretty, and if you scan the QR code on the table, it shows the furniture type and price. I was surprised it was pricier than I expected..!! No wonder it looked so upscale.

How do the chestnut matcha chocolate cake and financiers taste?

The order was ready quickly and brought over to the annex~ Such a rich chocolate cake... I love the matcha-chocolate combo, and on top of that, my favorite seasonal chestnuts too..!

Cross-section of the chestnut matcha chocolate cake

The fig financier and sweet potato financier were both crisp on the outside and moist inside — so good. Great flavor for a dessert gift too!! Having made desserts and brewed coffee here for 10 years, you could really feel how much dedication went into it!

Fig financier and sweet potato financier

Even though I was full, I finished almost the whole chestnut matcha chocolate cake,,, seriously thick matcha cream, chocolate cake, and nutty chestnut on top! A dream combination haha. After working out hard in the morning, seeing dessert just makes my eyes go wide.

Pairing Cafe Pomun's desserts with an iced americano and iced latte

This dessert especially paired well with the iced americano, and the americano itself was clean, which made it even better! I think the coffee was ₩4,800! I was so distracted by the desserts I forgot to photograph the drinks menu ㅠ.ㅠ

Iced americano on the dessert table

Such chewy financiers! I especially love flavors like candied sweet potato, and this was seriously sweet and delicious. Felt like all my stress melted away with dessert haha.

Close-up of the chewy sweet potato financier

The americano was light, almost like a cold brew, so it went really well with the dessert! My husband basically downed his café latte in one go haha. He said the latte flavor was smooth and he liked it.

What stayed with me was the genuine care put into the desserts and the beautiful interior at this Songtan dessert spot. If you're looking for a go-to café in Icheung-dong, I'd highly recommend this place~!

Especially... you have to try this chestnut matcha chocolate cake. The matcha-chocolate combo really never fails! A Pyeongtaek dessert café I'll think of again next time I need a dessert gift.
