Waist-length magic setting perm at Yangju hair salon Hair Design Whur

In short

Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch is a 1:1 appointment-only hair salon on the 3rd floor of a building facing Okjeong Lake Park in Yangju, Gyeonggi. After more than a year without a salon visit, the writer brought her semi-curly long hair to Designer Haneul for a large-roll magic setting perm with light layers plus a hair care treatment, and the 40,000 won surcharge for chest-to-waist length was printed on the price list, so the total was clear before the work began. The roots sat flat and the ends fell in a thick C-curl, leaving hair that looked good worn down or tied up.

Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch is a hair salon on the 3rd floor of a commercial building at 177 Okjeong-dong-ro, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, and this time the writer got a large-roll magic setting perm plus hair care. It's open 10:00–20:00, closed on the first and third Sundays of every month, and offers in-building parking with parking support and Naver reservations.

Hi, this is Jammeokbo. I stopped getting my hair done from the moment I started trying to get pregnant right through raising my child now — over a year — so my once-short hair grew past my chest, and it got to a point where I basically couldn't leave the house without tying it up. It became this raw, unmanageable mess ㅠㅠ

On top of that, whenever it got humid the roots would puff up and the ends would frizz out, so I told myself I couldn't put it off any longer and booked a visit to Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch.

My hair is slightly wavy with roots that puff up, so I went with a magic setting perm that presses the roots flat while leaving a natural curl at the ends. Even though it had been so long since my last treatment, I was so happy with the result that I'm writing this review along with a recommendation for the designer!

Where is Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch, and is there parking?

Commercial building housing Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch in front of Okjeong Lake Park

Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch is on the 3rd floor of a commercial building right in front of Okjeong Lake Park.

Entrance to the 3rd-floor salon across from Hosu Elementary School
Direction of the parking lot entrance at the front of the building

It's the building across from Hosu Elementary School, and the parking lot entrance is on the front side of the building. (You need to approach from the side facing the lake park to find it! I ended up going around the back and doing a full loop...) In-building parking is available and they offer parking support, so I could relax through a long treatment without worrying about parking fees.

View of Okjeong Lake Park through the floor-to-ceiling windows

Isn't the view pretty? The floor-to-ceiling windows look right down over the lake park, so even sitting there for three or four hours never felt stuffy, and just staring out the window and zoning out was honestly healing.

Inside the salon: atmosphere and consultation with Designer Haneul

Salon interior decorated in white wood tones

The salon is neatly done up in white wood tones, and the seats are arranged in a straight line so you don't face other customers — it feels very private during the treatment!

At the Ok-jeong branch of Whur, there are no assistants — the designer handles everything from start to finish 1:1, so booking ahead is essential!

A cold glass of water offered to the writer

I arrived without having had a sip of water because I'd been busy looking after my kid, and they gave me a cold glass of water right away. (They also have coffee, tea, and other drinks! I just happen to love water haha)

Designer Haneul checked my hair by hand, looking at the state of the ends where traces of an old perm remained, how much wave I naturally had, and the overall condition. I'd just gone in thinking 'I need a perm,' but she showed me photos and carefully checked exactly what style I wanted, and we decided on a slight layer cut with a magic setting perm!

How much is the length surcharge for long hair?

At Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch, the surcharge for length between chest-below and waist was ₩40,000. The price list has the length surcharge written out for every type of treatment, so you just need to check which category your length falls into and you can calculate the total cost before you even start.

Whenever I go somewhere for a perm with long hair, the length surcharge is always something I worry about — a lot of salons don't clearly display how much the surcharge is, so I've often only found out the total price after the treatment was already done.

Price list showing length surcharges by treatment type

Having this laid out so clearly felt really convenient and trustworthy for someone who gets long-hair treatments often. The surcharge is different for magic straightening, perms, and coloring even at the same length, so it's easy to budget ahead of time for your next treatment too — if the extra cost worries you, it's worth checking in advance!

My length fell between chest-below and waist, so ₩40,000 was added. (The length surcharge itself is also much cheaper than at other salons!)

How the large-roll magic setting perm was done, step by step

Shampoo room with curtains
Shampoo seat prepared with a blanket

In the shampoo room, they drew the curtain when I lay back and even covered me with a blanket — it was so comfortable.

Applying the hair care product
Cutting in the layers
Long hair after the care product application

Hair care went in at the same time as the setting perm — she applied the care product and then cut in the layers.

Perm test done with a single roller
Checking the test roller

She rolled just one roller first to test how the perm was taking before doing the rest!

Heat treatment straightening the roots during the magic process
Setting perm with large rollers on the ends
Heat processing with the large rollers set in

While the heat treatment was straightening the roots, she kept checking on the hair's condition periodically, and for the ends she wound them with large rollers, carefully setting the direction of each one to create a thick, natural C-curl.

Rollers set even into the front bangs

She rolled even the front bangs carefully, and when I mentioned I tie my hair up a lot because of childcare, she left the front section a little longer so it wouldn't fall loose when I tied it back — very thoughtful attention to detail.

The finished waist-length C-curl: results and verdict

Finished magic setting perm after the blow-dry

After the blow-dry, looking in the mirror, the roots sat calm and flat while thick waves flowed naturally toward the ends, cutting down a lot on that heavy feeling long hair usually has. Maybe because of the hair care, it also felt smooth with no snags when I ran my hand through it, and the shine had really come back.

Comparison of before the treatment and three days after

Here's my hair before the treatment and three days after. The layers fell nicely and the ends held their curl well, so it turned out pretty whether I wear it down or tied up.

If you're considering a long-hair magic setting perm at a hair salon in Yangju Okjeong, I'd recommend Designer Haneul at Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch, where you can check the length surcharge transparently before the treatment. Make sure to book ahead, and since long hair takes a good while, it's a good idea to leave your schedule open afterward.
