Root perm and protein clinic at Momentium, a Daegu hair salon

I went to a hair salon for the first time in a while haha. I don't visit often, but my hair had gotten so long and messy that I wanted a trim, plus I'd had a perm recently, plus I wanted a root perm too — so I went for all of it at once. Here's my honest review 😊

Where is Momentium and what are its hours?

Momentium is a hair salon at 42 Cheongho-ro 96-gil, 1st floor, Suseong-gu, Daegu. It's 324m from Exit 3 of Manchon Station, open Tue–Sat 10:00–19:30 and Sun 10:00–19:00, closed every Monday.

Inside Momentium: a one-person salon with lockers and a shampoo room

The clean styling chair you see right when you walk in. Not huge, but just the right size for a one-person salon!

In the back there's a water dispenser and a coffee & snack zone. There's also a locker room where they keep your bags and coat.

This is the shampoo room with two seats — the one I used actually had massage function haha. It felt amazing. After a quick consultation, we got started.

Straight hair before the cut and perm

I have straight hair, and I hate how that particular flatness makes my hair sit down, so I wanted some lift. My hair was also too long and messy so I wanted it tidied up, and past perms had left it prone to tangling and damage, so I wanted to try a clinic treatment too.

My hair was so long it needed a trim, and you can clearly see the ends were damaged, right?

The root perm and protein clinic were done at the same time!

Before the clinic, after washing, my hair was so tangled it was hard to even comb through, ㅠ

What is a root perm on straight hair like?

I also got a root perm done. This was my first time and I was so curious about it. (As someone who's lived my whole life with flat straight hair haha)

While my hair was being worked on, they asked what drink I'd like, and gave me snacks before my sugar levels dropped!

Protein clinic steps 1, 2 and 3 — why step 1 was enough

Before starting Momentium's protein clinic, they show you the products, and there was a really wide range.

Step 1 [Smooth]

Step 2 [Moisture]

Step 3 [Repair]. Apparently the higher the step, the more damaged your hair needs to be for that level. Thankfully my hair wasn't too badly damaged, so I went with step 1!

They apply plenty of the solution and wash it through.

After that you just sit under a hair steamer for about 10 minutes. This was my first time, and apparently it's to maximize moisture supply and nutrient penetration into the hair! I was curious since it seemed like it would leave hair really moist and soft. The whole thing took about 2 hours total.

Styling tips from the Momentium stylist

She said applying a heat protectant and heat protection essence before blow-drying or using a flat iron reduces heat damage significantly! It's a product sold at Momentium, so if you're worried about hair damage it might be worth buying together.

Layered cut and root perm results

After a clean layered cut plus root perm and protein clinic, my hair looked so much neater and prettier. Can you see the shine? haha. The root perm also came out very natural, and I was so satisfied. Here's the full shot for reference!

My hair ended up exactly with the root lift I wanted, all tidied up and glossy — I was so happy. The director's got skilled hands, no doubt about it!
