Geomdan samgyeopsal restaurant with Dubai chewy ssamjang: Taedon

I went to Taedon, a well-known samgyeopsal (pork belly barbecue) restaurant near Geomdan Sageori. Let me show you around haha😄

Where is Taedon Geomdan Sageori Branch, and where do you park?

Taedon is just a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Geomdan Sageori Station. If you're driving, it's right along the road a short way from Geomdan Sageori toward Majeon Station, so it wasn't hard to find.

Parking was easy too — there's space behind the restaurant, and a dedicated Taedon parking lot right across the street, so no worries about parking even if you drive.

What is the restaurant like inside?

The interior blends black and stone tones, giving off a much cleaner and more upscale feel than your typical Korean BBQ place.

We had reserved ahead, and they'd already set the table with all the tableware ready.

The table spacing and atmosphere are great too, so it's good for a family meal, taking your parents out, or hosting a gathering.

The assorted Handon pork platter and four complimentary dishes

Taedon's assorted Hangdon pork platter arrived.

The color of the meat is amazing, right? When you order the meat, you get four side dishes complimentary: steamed egg, spicy noodle salad, flat dumplings, and assorted mushrooms.

I thought the free sides would be something simple, but the portions and composition are seriously high quality!

When you order the assorted pork platter, you also get to choose between kimchi stew and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew). Such a great deal!!

They grill the meat on the pan for you until nicely browned.

No gamey smell at all, and the more you chew, the more clean and savory it tastes — really delicious.

Why the Dubai chewy ssamjang is Taedon's highlight

I love dipping meat in ssamjang (dipping sauce), and Taedon's Dubai chewy ssamjang is seriously incredible.

You can see garlic, chili, and kataifi in it, but there must be some secret sauce in there too, right?

I honestly wanted to pack it up and take it home hahahaha

Vegetables grilled in lard and the steamed egg

That little white circle there is lard.

Grilling kimchi, bracken fern, assorted mushrooms and eggplant with it makes everything savory — I couldn't stop reaching for more.

Grilling in lard really adds to the flavor. The steamed egg was soft and moist, perfect to have between bites of meat.

It's not too salty, so it would work fine to mix with rice for little kids too.

The spicy noodle salad has plenty of vegetables in a sweet and tangy sauce, and it pairs really well wrapped up with the meat,

and wrapping it with the flat dumplings from Seomun Market is a real treat too.

Kimchi stew and ice cream to finish

The kimchi stew was loaded with meat and kimchi, looking hearty just to see.

The broth was rich and deep, and the meat and kimchi were braised down soft, making it fun to spoon out. We finished the meal with ice cream — it looked better than what you'd get at most cafés. Pretty, right?

The sweet ice cream came decorated with Oreo cookies and kataifi on top, with a nice crunchy texture and just sweet enough — perfect as dessert after the meal.

Was Taedon worth the visit?

We only ordered meat, but there were so many side dishes to mix and match that it felt like eating a full course meal made of samgyeopsal.
