I visited a bakery near the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office in Uijeongbu that has earned singular popularity among dessert and bread lovers. It is Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch (바이웨이 베이커스 청사본점), known not only for showing the true potential of financiers, but also for its signature Butter Tteok and generously topped Wakppu Salt Bread.
Far beyond a small neighborhood bakery, it has a solid lineup of high-quality European-style breads including croissants, jambon-beurre, baguettes, campagne loaves, and scones, making it a worthy stop on a bread pilgrimage. Here is my honest tasting review and detailed visit information for the 5-piece Butter Tteok set, Blueberry Wakppu Salt Bread, and the seasonally new Fig Wakppu Salt Bread—also called Fig Basque Cheesecake Wakppu Salt Bread—which has been explosively popular.

In particular, the Butter Tteok, which reaches a high point of chewiness and nutty flavor, and the Wakppu Salt Bread series, piled generously with fruit toppings that win over both the eyes and the palate, were clear points of difference that are hard to find at other bakeries. They open early every morning, so you can find freshly baked bread, and both in-store takeout and delivery are wonderfully convenient. It is a bakery I am 100% willing to revisit whenever I am around the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office or Singok-dong—I want to come back and conquer the entire menu.
Butter Tteok and Wakppu Salt Bread I took home
On this visit, I placed a takeout order focused on the most popular signature items and enjoyed them at home.
5-piece Butter Tteok set
Butter Tteok (butter rice cake; 5-piece set / ₩7,500) is the one-of-a-kind signature menu item. The distinctively springy, chewy texture of tteok pairs delightfully with the flavor of premium butter. It is lightly golden on the outside and wonderfully sticky inside; the more you chew, the more its nutty flavor and gentle sweetness spread, giving it an appeal that makes it hard to stop once you begin. The set of five is great value and also makes an excellent gift.
Blueberry Wakppu Salt Bread
Blueberry Wakppu Salt Bread (₩8,500) is a visually stunning item, with fresh cream and tangy blueberry toppings generously scattered over the salt bread. Sweet-tart fruit meets the savory base of a buttery, crisp-outside and moist-inside salt bread for perfect sweet-and-salty balance. It stays clean and enjoyable right through the last bite, without becoming rich.
Fig Wakppu Salt Bread
Fig Wakppu Salt Bread brings together the distinctive popping texture of seeds in sweetly simmered figs and their deep flavor with soft cream and nutty salt bread. Its refined sweetness lingers throughout the mouth, making it ideal alongside coffee or tea.

Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch impressed me not only with its stylish atmosphere and friendly service, but also with a dessert lineup that stays true to the basics while overflowing with character.
Above all, the supremely chewy Butter Tteok and Wakppu Salt Bread series, which deliver on both looks and flavor, offered a distinctive satisfaction that is hard to find elsewhere. It is easy to reach from the station, and the gift packaging is neat, so it is a bakery I am 100% willing to revisit whenever I am near Uijeongbu Station. If you love bread, I definitely recommend stopping by.
