Sokcho market bakery chilled cream cheese egg tart: Doris Patisserie
In short
Doris Patisserie is a pink-fronted egg tart bakery at the far end of Sokcho Central Market in Gangwon. Doris Patisserie takes text reservations from 6am the day before pickup and sells only by the six-piece box, from 15,900 won, and this pickup mixed original and cream cheese egg tarts with lemon madeleine, earl grey madeleine and chocolate financier. The cream cheese egg tart, deliberately eaten chilled, was tangy rather than heavy, and the lemon madeleine was good enough to order three of next time.

Doris Patisserie, the egg tart spot at Sokcho Central Market! I packed a mix of everything — original egg tart, cream cheese egg tart, lemon madeleine, earl grey madeleine, chocolate financier. The baked goods were just as good as the egg tarts, so it made a great pick for a Sokcho trip souvenir. Sharing my review after booking ahead and picking up!

Why order three lemon madeleines instead of two
When you go to pick up, the counter is full of beautifully packaged baked goods, and the madeleines and financiers are hefty enough that one is plenty! We love lemon madeleine so much that we ordered two, but honestly, they're good enough that I want to order three next time!

It was pretty crowded, but the owner was kind and helpful sorting everything out, which made it easy, and they even threw in an extra egg tart as a little gift! Walk-in purchase is possible too, but reserving makes pickup a lot smoother, so I'd recommend booking ahead!
Cream cheese egg tart tastes best chilled

The moment I got home and opened the box, a nutty aroma filled the air! The pastry has visible layers on the outside, so each bite is crisp with a light, flaky crunch — genuinely delicious. Original sells the most, but since I love cream cheese, I deliberately chilled the cream cheese egg tart before eating it, and it came out slightly tangy, not heavy at all!

The earl grey and lemon madeleines are hefty and come nicely boxed, so they'd make a great gift too!

They even write storage instructions right on the box, so you can check at a glance without having to look it up — a nice touch!

The sweet custard of the original egg tart, with the slightly heavier, nutty flavor of the cream cheese added in, makes for a richer-tasting tart!

Lemon madeleine between bites of egg tart
Egg tarts alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, so I added madeleines! The outside is slightly firm while the inside stays moist, and the buttery aroma hits first, followed by a bright lemon scent — really good! Eating sweet desserts back to back can get overwhelming, but the lemon flavor felt like it reset my palate, making it perfect to eat between egg tart bites! If you're at Sokcho Central Market for dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) or fritters and want something sweet after, I'd recommend stopping by Doris Patisserie too!
