Lately I've really been enjoying sitting alone in a café — reading, catching up on work, taking my time. This time I was looking for a place to work solo near Hwagye Station and Suyu Market, and I happened to wander into a café called Cafe Mendeolli Suyu Branch.
The moment I walked in, my first thought was, 'Why didn't I know about this place sooner?' The atmosphere was gorgeous, and the brunch menu prices were nicer than I expected, which won me over. Reading with a sandwich made from ciabatta baked in-house made the time pass so pleasantly.
If you're looking for a Suyu café that offers more than just coffee — one with a proper brunch too — Cafe Mendeolli is worth remembering.
Location and hours of Cafe Mendeolli Suyu Branch

Cafe Mendeolli Suyu Branch is at 1F, 18 Suyu-ro, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. It's in Suyu-dong, an easy stop near Hwagye Station and Suyu Market, so it's convenient if you're already meeting someone in the area.
It's open from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, closed every Wednesday. Good for a late-afternoon coffee, and also good for a lunchtime brunch visit.
I actually came here to work solo that day, and the cozy atmosphere made me want to stay much longer than planned. There's terrace group seating too, so it works well not just for solo reading or studying but also for a few people gathering to chat.
A space inspired by the Manderley mansion from the musical Rebecca

Cafe Mendeolli's atmosphere is a little different from your average neighborhood café. It's decorated with the Manderley mansion from the musical Rebecca as its motif, which gives the space an exotic, vintage feel.
Anyone who loves this kind of atmosphere will probably fall for it the moment they walk in. It was my first visit too, and the space itself was so pretty that I found myself slowly wandering around taking it in. But if it were only a pretty café, it probably wouldn't have stuck with me this much.

Since you can also get a proper brunch here, it felt like quite a practical space for eating alone, reading, or studying. A lot of people looking for Suyu cafés these days are after a spot for studying or working solo, and Cafe Mendeolli suits that purpose well.
Avocado sandwich for ₩8,900, ciabatta baked in-house

What I ordered that day was the avocado sandwich for ₩8,900. As a single sandwich price it's not too much, so it was easy to order as a brunch item.
What I liked most was that they use ciabatta baked fresh in-house every day. If you like the plain, understated flavor of good bread, this ciabatta sandwich will suit you especially well.

The avocado sandwich comes with Mendeolli's own handmade basil mayo sauce, ripened avocado, boneless ham, arugula, romaine, and lettuce. There's plenty of avocado and a mix of ingredients, but overall the flavor is mild and light, never heavy.
The soft, nutty taste of the avocado pairs well with the ciabatta's plain flavor, and the freshness of the vegetables adds a nice contrast — a good brunch choice.

The sandwich comes with a salad dressed in oriental and pepper dressing, so it worked well as a full meal. Pairing a simple brunch with your coffee, rather than just drinking coffee alone, made the afternoon feel much more satisfying and relaxed.
Mendeolli signature vanilla bean latte, ₩5,200

The drink I had with my sandwich was the Mendeolli signature vanilla bean latte for ₩5,200. This one felt like it would suit anyone who loves a vanilla latte.
It's made with espresso and Mendeolli's own handmade vanilla bean syrup, simmered in-house. It has a different character from a regular vanilla-syrup latte, so as a signature menu item, it's worth ordering at least once on your first visit.

Since the ciabatta sandwich is on the light side, pairing it with the sweet, smooth vanilla latte worked nicely. I really love this kind of slow time — brunch and coffee laid out together, no rush.
Is it a good Suyu café for working or studying solo?

The main reason I visited Cafe Mendeolli was to work alone. I went looking for a café to spend some solo time in near Hwagye Station and Suyu Market, and the atmosphere turned out to be better than I expected.
It was a good spot to open a book and eat brunch slowly, or sort out a to-do list over coffee. Since the brunch prices are fairly reasonable, it seemed like a great fit for anyone wanting to camp out for a long stretch and grab a simple meal at the same time.
It's also a good spot for meeting friends or going on a date near Suyu Market, as well as for solo studying or working. With group seating and a terrace, it also looked useful for meetings or gatherings with several people.
Overall review of Cafe Mendeolli Suyu Branch

My first thought on this first visit to Cafe Mendeolli Suyu Branch was, 'Why didn't I discover this sooner?' I went in looking for a pretty Suyu café, and I came away remembering it as a brunch café too, thanks to that delicious ciabatta sandwich.

The avocado sandwich in particular — ciabatta baked fresh daily, packed with avocado, ham, arugula, and vegetables — was light yet nutty, perfect for an easy meal. Paired with the Mendeolli signature vanilla bean latte, it made for a fairly filling brunch.
Above all, the atmosphere is great for going alone to read or study, so it should suit anyone looking for a Suyu café for solo work or studying. If you're near Suyu Market looking for a great-atmosphere café, or a brunch café where you can enjoy a tasty ciabatta sandwich alongside your coffee, Cafe Mendeolli Suyu Branch is worth a visit.
On a day when you want to spend quiet time alone like I did, ordering a good brunch and opening up a book here could turn into a surprisingly nice afternoon.
