Siheung meat restaurant with a giant steamed egg: Bulhyangjip

In short

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is a charcoal-grill meat restaurant inside the Mulwang Lake food district in Siheung, Gyeonggi. Two brothers took a window seat with a mountain view and ordered charcoal scallion bulgogi, bibim noodles (spicy cold noodles), farmhouse-style doenjang jjigae and a mother's-hands steamed egg that puffed up like three servings. The seasoning is mild, the dining room seats 100 and parking is wide, so Bulhyangjip made the list of places to bring their parents back to.

Parking and seating at Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch

A green mountain view and a roomy 100-seat dining room

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch has its own lot behind the building for up to 30 cars, and the interior seats 100. Following navigation into the Mulwang Lake food district, the clean exterior of the Bulhyangjip main branch came into view. Parking really matters when choosing a restaurant, and here the lot is huge, so even new drivers can visit comfortably.

Stepping inside, the wood-toned, modern, comfortable interior stood out. The space is large enough to hold 100 people, and group seating and private rooms are well separated, making it a great spot for large family gatherings ^^

The window seats in particular were the most popular, offering a sweeping view of the lush green mountains, and we were lucky enough to sit right there, taking in the open scenery and the relaxed vibe of this genuine Mulwang Reservoir meat restaurant.

The self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant had a generous, spotless spread of banchan (side dishes) like namul (seasoned vegetables), salad, and kimchi. And the restrooms, separated for men and women, were remarkably clean too!!

How is the charcoal scallion bulgogi served?

49 years of charcoal pre-grilling, done right in front of you

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch's signature dish is the 'charcoal scallion bulgogi' — order it and you can watch it being grilled right in the pre-grilling area inside the restaurant. This place was newly opened by a master who ran a charcoal pre-grilling operation at the foot of Gwanaksan Mountain for 49 years. As soon as we ordered, we watched the meat get grilled in a dazzling burst of flames ^^

In under 10 minutes, the main dish was set on the table. About 40% of the bulgogi was covered in fresh shredded scallions, giving it an appetizing look like a scallion pancake.

The moment you bite into the meat, real charcoal smoke fragrance fills your mouth, and the mellow sweetness of the softly cooked scallions paired perfectly with the chewy bulgogi. It wasn't heavily seasoned but relied on the quality of the ingredients themselves, making it easily one of the most impressive meat restaurants in Siheung ^^

Are the bibim noodles and doenjang jjigae worth adding?

The best way to mix the bibim noodles, plus a hearty doenjang jjigae

Bulhyangjip's bibim noodles use a vegetable broth fermented for 14 days, which might be why they weren't overly spicy or sweet, just pleasantly refreshing. My brother strongly insisted we order the 'bibim noodles' to go with the bulgogi, and it turned out to be a hidden dark horse of the menu!

Charcoal bulgogi piled on top of the bibim noodles

Piling the smoky bulgogi right on top of the bibim noodles created a fantastic combo that real food lovers can't help but adore, a perfect pairing at this Mulwang Lake meat restaurant ^^

A stone pot of farmhouse-style doenjang jjigae

On top of that, the 'farmhouse-style doenjang jjigae,' something no Korean table should be without, was much thicker and richer than the usual doenjang jjigae at meat restaurants, with a deep flavor almost like concentrated cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew). Mixed into rice, it was downright impossible to resist.

How big is the mother's-hands steamed egg at Bulhyangjip?

Mild flavors that suit older diners, and a steamed egg that towers

Mother's-hands egg custard puffed up over the stone pot

Bulhyangjip's 'mother's-hands egg custard' came out puffed up over the rim of the stone pot like it was about to explode, a portion big enough for three. When ordering it as a side, I initially thought it was a bit pricey, but once it actually arrived, I was shocked by the sheer volume ^^ The custard wasn't salty at all — light and soft — and it paired perfectly with the deep-flavored doenjang jjigae, switching between the two.

Overall, aside from the jjigae, the bulgogi, egg custard, and banchan were all mildly seasoned, so we felt comfortable even after eating. It instantly made sense why this place has so many older customers. As we left, my brother couldn't stop praising it, saying we absolutely have to bring our parents back here soon ^^ Even though the staff was clearly busy, their service was fast and kind, and we finished the meal feeling well taken care of until the very end.
