Last day in Jeju: Tamra Hansang after a walk through Olle Market

Today was the last day of my Jeju trip. Since I had to eat well before leaving, I finished my afternoon plans, walked around Jeju Olle Market, and thought hard about what to eat next. This time I wanted a proper Korean set meal, so I went to Tamra Hansang!

Visiting Tamra Hansang, a Korean restaurant near Seogwipo's Olle Market

I picked it because I wanted a real Jeju meal near the market, and it turned out to be a pretty satisfying one.

I thought it would just be grilled cutlassfish, but sashimi, fritters, side dishes, and hot pot rice all came out together, making it way more generous than I expected.

So in the end I couldn't resist and ordered a bottle of soju too, haha.

We ordered the grilled cutlassfish set that day.

I actually came for the cutlassfish, but once the table was set, the spread was way more varied than I expected. Sashimi, all kinds of side dishes, fritters, soup, and hot pot rice — it really was a full set, living up to its name.

So if you're looking for a good Korean restaurant near Jeju Olle Market, I think this suits people who want to try a little bit of many Jeju dishes rather than just one single item.

How does the grilled cutlassfish set taste? Mackerel sashimi, sweet shrimp and fritters

The grilled cutlassfish set finally arrived, and the table filled up fast.

The cutlassfish came out grilled a nice golden brown, and picking the flesh apart, it was clean-tasting yet savory.

Laying the fish over warm rice, I thought — grilled cutlassfish really is different when you eat it in Jeju.

But personally, what stuck with me more was the sashimi that came alongside it. The mackerel sashimi had zero fishy smell. Being able to switch between the cutlassfish and fresh sashimi kept the flavors interesting.

As a shrimp fanatic, the raw sweet shrimp sashimi was especially delicious. And the fritters — seriously, so freaking soft.

The outside was fried to a nice crisp while the inside stayed moist and tender, so I kept reaching for more.

With grilled cutlassfish, sashimi, and fritters all on the table, there was no way I wasn't ordering soju, haha. The side dishes were nice to pick at one by one, and finishing with warm hot pot rice rounded off the meal properly.

I got so full that by the end my stomach was completely stuffed.
